First, it's not ALL Catholic priests that are doing these things. It is only a few of them.. and I daresay it's not just the Catholic religion, there are priests/elders of other branches of Christianity, and other religions as well. It's just that the Roman Catholic church is in the media spotlight right now, hence it is the one we hear about.
For the most part, Catholics (and people in general!) are good to kids and others; it's part of their duty to be kind and gracious towards others.
And while I have no doubt many of those people have gone through that kind of episode, when I saw that news story on TV today the first thought that came into my head was, "And how many of those people are actually just using that excuse for the money... and how many more people will make up stories or put their kids up to making up stories about it now that they think they can get almost 1.5 million dollars for it??"
And remember one other thing too --- tons of kids are abused mentally, physically, and emotionally by people who have nothing to do with churches also! By parents, distant relatives, family "friends", neighbors, strangers.... instead of just condemning one religion (called "Stereotyping," and it is a very bad thing to do!) we should put all of our energy into finding those people (from ALL walks of life!) that harm children and other people, and remove them from society. Let's refrain from stereotyping, and concentrate on making our communities a safer place to live no matter what your religion, race, or anything else!
People that do horrible things to kids deserve the maximum penalty for it... but those who exploit children's past tortured experiences for their own gain are no better than those that committed these atrocious crimes. In my humble opinion.

Thinking that they CAN totally get away with it. What is a few million dollars? They just pass the plate and get a new parish. TRANSFER....
The whole lets go to Mexico and build houses for the poor ruse is a good one. It make a few people feel good while the premise of the Catholic hierarchy is to get a much money and screw over as many people as they can. Just look at the history. Even the new Pope Bene is tearing apart everything the last Pope built up. Pay them off, hush them up and lets start anew! People will forget and then reach down deep in their pockets... what a shame. These poor children.

1] they weren't thinking, just following evil impulses
2] Jesus believes in harming no one - so he would not teach others to hurt little children in this horrible way.
3] Of course, the money could have been used for other things - but who is to say it would have been better? I don't know what the recipients plan to do with it, do you?
I think some of those wounded ARE poor and suffering.

Indeed, it would have served the poor and sick well. However, the catholic church has plenty of money. I'm sure they'll step down to generic wafers to make it up and meet their year end budget. After all, it's non-profit. There's all kinds of loopholes for non-profit organizations.

what are priests thinking when they do that?
they are only thinking of themselves and that it feels "good" at the time but in the long run of the boy, its ruining their lives.
i feel so bad for the young, innocent little boys who have to suffer because of some selfish old man looking for a little fun....but its not fun for that boy who is just going to church and his parents thinking hes going to be safe and then they find out what really happened that day at church.
it is sick and it digusts me.
i wish that i could step up and save those little boys future but it saddens me to say i cant.
i hope this helps, but it doesnt really help.
God Bless You.
P.S.-im glad this doesnt happen in Christian Church's as often.

What do you think the pastors would be thinking when they used boys AND girls for sex?
Perhaps the same thing, except these pastors churches are quick to distance away from their pastors, sort of ostrich mentally.
Basically, it is the person involved, they are perverts. It has nothing to do with what they believed.

An evil spirit must have gotten inside of him.
Ephesians 6:12
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

These guys where silk lame robes. If you were not a Christian and were casting around for meaning in your life would you say:
" gee, you know what is missing in my life, leadership from someone in a silk lame robe?" Of course not.
