Crystal Reports is popular software package for making professional reports. I believe that Business Objects if the company that owns this product.

Microsoft has added a Crystal Report designer to their Visual Studio package to allow developers to easily incorporate reports into their applications. I believe that each report is stored as a .rpt file.
