I think it depends on what you are looking at when you ask that question. In terms of advertising dollars and prize money to the fighters boxing is still king. You don't see any MMA type fighters fighting for ten million yet, much less forty or fifty million like you do in boxing.
Boxing has been on the decline in some ways over the years though. You only have to look at the various weight divisions and the lack of quality type fighters and there are definitely a lot fewer of them than thirty or forty years ago. Boxing programs are also on the decline in many cities and many gyms and gold glove programs have closed. The impact of other sports on the supply of fighters has also had an impact on the sport of boxing.
While the money is not there yet and its debatable on how long the career of a fighter can be in MMA/UFC there is more action. The bouts seem to be more competitive and it is something that the younger generations are embracing over boxing.

Well I think you can believe the hype of pay-per-views more in the ufc (not that they always deliver but most of the time they are worth the money)
P.S
I would have to say de la hoya vs floyd mayweather was the worst 50 bucks I have ever spent, that fight could have put boxing back on the top of the martial arts world, but ended up being a long sparring match....

why the comparison? thats like asking whats better soccer or football? They are different sports. Boxing isn't as exciting to new fans because they don't appriciate what is going on, same thing with Jiu-Jitsu in MMA, new fans always say that it looks like gay dry humping but you have to understand what going on to appriciate it.
I'm an MMA sports writer but I have trained in boxing so I won't take a side on this issue because honestly it shouldn't be an issue, boxing was dying long before MMA went mainstream, its full of corrupt promoters, managers, and fighters who fight no to lose rather than finish their opponents. But boxing has a long and glorious history while MMA has really only been around (and regulated) for a little over a decade.

I still like both, theres something apealing about two people just pounding away at each other, but alot of boxing fights have been really crap lately while UFC fights remain consistantly exciting and entertaining

UFC certainly gets more attention, but boxing has kind of faded from the public eye. It kind of has taken its place a bit.
