is getting a degree really that important?

I have heard from a real story...
This person Mr A, who have worked in the industry for a no. of years and is very experienced but he only has a diploma and the upper management position is never opened to him for years...

There comes this fresh graduate with honours and was immediately offered a upper management position...

Why is that so? I thought experience is something that is very important which will determine one's career advancement? Not not the piece of paper?

But did the employers consider the fact that the honours graduate may be academic smart but may not be worldly-wise.enough for their company?

A degree is really important; particularly in a very competitive job market like we have today. Companies will always try to get the best qualified people in terms of education, experience and track record.

An education is a long-term investment. It will put you in good jobs. It will also give you a lot of self-respect. Money is not everything. There are learning years and earning years. It is generally not a good idea to prioritize work before education. It is like putting the cart before the horse.

Peace and blessings!

Getting a degree is vitally important! Sure, there are plenty of jobs, such as construction, that don't require a degree. But if you wanted to work in construction, a degree in architecture would have you designing the homes from inside an air conditioned building, instead of slinging a hammer in 100 degree summer heat!

That's the kind of power a degree has. Higher degrees help even more. You could be a landscape architect with a bachelor's degree, but with a master's in landscape architecture you could teach it at a major university. The higher you go in your education, the more power you have over your career. If you wanted to be a psychologist, a master's degree would allow you to get your license to practice with patients out of your own office. Getting your doctorate, a Ph.D., would put you in a position to become the administrator to many psychologists.

If you have no ambition, you will be happy with low-paying jobs. But if your dreams are to be better in charge of your life and your career, a degree is the way.
