All dogs have whats called an anal gland... this gland is what dogs smell when they "sniff" each other....The anal gland is also a defense mechanism that dogs use.... when a dog gets scared, nervous, or upset they release the scent of the anal glands to try and either "scare you away from them or to discourage you from continuing whatever it is that scared him in the first place.... you can always take him to the vet to get his anal glands expressed the vet usually does them internaly.... it will help keep his odor down....lol good luck and i hope that you don't loose any plants to his odor...lol

Getting caught in a plastic bag can terrify cats (and the memory stays with them, it's awful). What likely happened was she compressed enough that the anal glands expelled. There's not much in them, but they have awful smelling stuff that's quite greasy. They're on either side of the anus, in the skin area (the wrinkles hide them usually). They can hold as much as a pea sized glob in each one. Cut the handles on all your plastic bags, to make sure she won't do it again and possibly strangle.

Well you know how skunks spray when they're scared? What they're spraying comes out of these two "marbles" in their anal sac, they bounce off eachother and spray, and you may be surprised to know that dogs have these too!
The stuff in these marbles is poison, it is much like our appendix bursting when the poison is emitted from these marbles. If this is a new problem, I would consult your vet. If you notice stuff being sprayed out of it's hind, be sure to clean it up.

It's normal. All animals - even people - release odor when they're frightened.

Stop scaring him! j/k

And feeding him better food will reduce all of his body odors.

He's probably evacuating his anal glands.

Apparently on some dogs they even pop out when they are really scared.

He probably empties his anal glands, which releases a vile - smelling ,oily substance.Dogs and cats normally empty these glands when they have a bowel movement, but it is very common for them to empty them when they are frightened,as a defense mechanism.

Anal glands are most likely the source of your problem...we have dogs spray us all the time at work when we have to draw blood or to nail trims- stressful stuff in general. If you want to lessen the load of it, you can have your dog's anal glands expressed or even removed.

He is secreting his anal glands. Dogs have a gland similar to a skunk. The gland is located just inside his rectum.
