You can get a carpet pole at the pet store and put it at the area where she scratches. ... and make a sharp sound when you catch her scratching where she shouldn't. She's a baby so it will be easier to teach her what is wrong... Hopefully that works :)

Buy kitty a starching post, spray it with catnip all available from pet shops This will get kitty to use the post insted of your furniture. Kittens love to play with anything scrunch up a piece of paper and roll it along the floor and watch him or her play.

It needs a scratching post of some sort. You can buy them fairly cheap. Get cardboard. Cats love to shred cardboard boxes.
To keep them off your furniture, put double stick tape on the edges of the furniture and put aluminum foil on the seating and when they jump up it scares them and they learn to leave it alone.

they love to play with string get a stick tie some string to it and a flashy thing at the end and they will play with it also try a scratching post and maybe clip their nails because thats why they try to scratch to shape their nails or you could have them declawed all together but its a painful process and its very expensive so a toy is best. also this is kind of mean and i probly wouldnt do it but you could get a water bottle and spray it evey time it scratches the sofa.

Instead of buying kitty toys, get some old piece of crud furniture and see if she'll take that instead...
Buuut, those long cheap scratch posts could work too- or try a cardboard box.

You know those plastic carpet savers that you see under office desks? Well flip that puppy over and place it by the couch ar even lean it where the cat scratches! They are very poky! and I promise you that one time is all it will take for it to stop!

I cut their nails (not remove them). This prevents damage to furniture. I also use sprays to deter them from touching the furniture which turns them away.
