My mother has a Chevy, Malibu and I'm looking into buying a Jeep Cherokee also w/6 cylinder. Does that makes the gas prices about the same? I don't know if yr. or wheel drive of the car matters but I'm also looking at a car for low gas prices. Thank you for all your help.

a six cylinder engine is just one of the factors, it also will depend on the size of the pistons and if the tanks are the same size. the jeeps engine is probably around a 5.0 litre engine while the Malibu would be more around a 3.0 litre engine i.e. use more gas. the jeeps gas tanks is probably a larger tank than the Malibu therefore it will cost more to fill. and if the car is all wheel drive it will undoubtedly use a significantly larger amount of gas than the fwd malibu.

go for the four cylinder and fill up less all around
gas prices don,t effect the price of the fill -up how many times does gas milage is effected by weight of the car vs. suv ,truck
the jeep will eat gas compared to the malibu

It doesn't matter how much it holds so much as to how much it uses.

If you get a 4 wheel drive SUV then count on using more gas than the 2 wheel version. Even if you leave it in 2 wheel drive you are still carrying around the extra weight of the drive train.

Use the EPA estimates for the average gas mileage on the vehicles that you are interested in. good luck.

It sounds to me like your asking which cars cost the least to drive some distance each day...Look to "Miles per gallon" ratings for a clue, as to comparative gas consumption. For low cost operation look for small light cars like "The Geo Metro." Bigger vehicles like Jeep SUV's will NOT get better mileage and therefore cost more to buy gas for than a Malibu!

It all depends on how large the tank is. Normally the Jeep would carry a 18 - 22 gallon tank while the Malibu tank might much smaller say 16 -18 gallons.

Usually the answer is no. Probably 3-5mpg difference, which is a lot in our fuel situation. 1. SUVs are not as aerodynamic. 2. SUVs are typically heavier and larger vehicles. Look into the Mercury Mariner.

No. SUV's usually have larger fuel tanks than a passenger car. My car has a 14 gallon tank, my SUV has a 32 gallon tank.
