Here in the UK we do pay a licence fee the BBC as no advertising,

We used to have an analogue satellite dish/receiver on one occasion i remember England were playing Italy in a football match you had to pay to watch this on SKY tuned into one of the German stations the match was being shown for free.

Sometimes if you can pick up foreign stations on sat elite they can be free

There are no radio or television license fees in the United States or Canada. Many people pay for cable TV connections to their homes, but these are not required. Anyone with an antenna can watch all the over-the-air broadcasts he wants, for free, forever. The costs are paid for by advertising and by voluntary contributions to non-commercial public-broadcasting stations.

There are a lot of 'premium' channels available only for special fees, and these are sent over cable TV systems.

Th U.K. is the only country with a legal requirement to purchase a TV licence.

The U.K. is the only country with a publicly funded national television broadcaster. i.e. the BBC.

There is no equivalent anywhere else in the world.
