Army Rangers are Special Ops.
The only Special Forces team in the United States is the Green Berets. Special Forces= Green Berets (ONLY)
Special Ops...AKA...Special Operation Forces include:
Army: Delta Force, Army Rangers
Navy: SEALs, SWCCs, E.O.D. (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), Navy Divers
Air Force: Combat Controllers, E.O.D., Para-Rescue/Combat Rescue Officers, S.E.R.E. Specialists
Marine: Recon
Special Operation Forces do exactly as the title states. Each Special Operations Group has their own function/specialty.
Army Rangers and Navy SEALs are very familiar as they both special in fast, effective action such as taking a landing strip and securing it while a Combat Controller would call planes in for an air strike, or to fly in more troops. SEALs are more water oriented and Rangers are more land oriented, but they both can achieve the same goals.
If you are asking the big difference between Rangers and the Special Forces (Green Berets); The Special Forces are Force Multipliers. They specialize in going behind enemy lines for extended periods of time forming alliances and training locals to fight for the same cause. They train & sometimes supply locals for missions and help destroy the enemy from within.
To become a Ranger you first must enlist, then request Airborne training. All Rangers are Airborne trained and requesting this training is not necessary at this point, but it will aid in the process of becoming a Ranger. After you have completed the course, and received your "Wings", you will need to ask your commanding officer for a recommendation into the Ranger program. Then you will begin your intensive physical, and education program which includes passing the S.E.R.E Program. (Survival, Evasion, Resistance & Escape) which is taught by a S.E.R.E. Specialist (Spec Ops). This training encompasses just exactly the acronym. You will learn to Survive in any environment with minimal supplies, evade the enemy when in danger of capture, Resist torture and interrogation, and escaping from the most hostile situations. During the S.E.R.E. program you will be accompanied by many other soldiers from different branches with different specialties including Naval Pilots, Combat Controllers, etc. Soon after completion you will begin intensive weapon training, navigation courses, foreign country education, etc.
Now for Green Berets. 95% of Green Berets were once a Special Operation Soldier and already have received the necessary training to put them a step above a normal soldier. You will again receive a refresher course on many things previously learn and undergo even more extensive physical punishment, education, and TREMENDOUS amount of political education.
Just in case you are curious. The best combat force in the Military would have to be the Anti-Terrorism Special Operations Group, Delta. Many Delta members were once previously Rangers>Green Berets and have now been hand picked for selection into this program. They are ONLY Anti-Terrorism unit and they are the cream of the crop as far as training, education, military tactics, politics, etc. They get the newest technology, the newest information, the most comprehensive training available. They are indeed the best, but again, they are targeting a different specialty in the military opposed to different Spec Ops.
In reality, there is no "Best". They all have their purpose, they are all highly trained, very well educated, and very reliable.

To start off the Army Special Ops consist of Special Forces, Army Rangers and an elite aviation regiment.
Special Forces:
As far as airborne qualifications goes SF are airborne qualified, male only, high school graduate (minimum), US citizen, qualify for a security clearance and must be mentally and physicaly alert.
Rangers:
Currently, 75th Rangers must first pass US Army airborne school to be considered. Personally, I believe that Ranger training is a sequential step after Airborne training. Rangers are a light Infantry combat unit that are considered one of the most elite light infantry combat forces in the entire world.
Also, one can be Airborne, Ranger and Special Forces qualified but the question is that if you need to leave the military what will you do? Be a Mercenary? I think not. It sounds great but it doesn't workfor the well trained soldier. Remember a Ranger Special Forces soldier or an aviation nit person must be physically and mentally alert... So if your reason to know of each unit is for your personall choice then please pick what you want to do and possibly do the best you know how as it will follow you your entire life. Good luck if you desire either path.

The Chief of Staff of the Army asked his Sergeant Major, who was both Ranger and Special Forces qualified, which organization he would recommend to form a new anti-terrorist unit. The Sergeant Major responded to the General's question with this parable: If there were a hijacked Boeing 747 being held by terrorists along with its passengers and crew and an anti-terrorist unit formed either by the Rangers or the Special Forces was given a Rescue/Recovery Mission; what would you expect to happen?
Ranger Option
Forces/Equipment Committed: If the Rangers went in, they would send a Ranger company of 120 men with standard army issue equipment.
Mission Preparation: The Ranger Company First Sergeant would conduct a Hair Cut and Boots Inspection, while the officers consulted SOPs and held sand table exercises.
Infiltration Technique: They would insist on double timing, in company formation, wearing their combat equipment, and singing cadence all the way to the site of the hijacked aircraft.
Actions in the Objective Area: Once they arrived, the Ranger company would establish their ORP, put out security elements, conduct a leaders recon, reapply their camouflage, and conduct final preparations for Actions on the OBJ.
Results of Operation: The Rescue/Recovery Operation would be completed within one hour; all of the terrorists and most of the passengers would have been killed, the Rangers would have sustained light casualties and the 747 would be worthless to anyone except a scrap dealer.
Special Forces Option
Forces/Equipment Committed: If Special Forces went in, they would send only a 12 man team (all SF units are divisible by 12 for some arcane historical reason) however, due to the exotic nature of their equipment the SF Team would cost the same amount to deploy as the Ranger Company.
Mission Preparation: The SF Team Sergeant would request relaxed grooming standards for the team.
All members of the team would spend a grueling afternoon at a quality spa ensuring physical abilities would be honed.
Infiltration Technique: The team would insist on separate travel orders with Max Per Diem, and each would get to the site of the hijacking by his own means. At least one third of the team would insist on jumping in HALO.
Actions in the Objective Area: Once they arrived , the SF Team would cache their military uniforms, establish a Team Room at the best hotel in the area, use their illegal Team Fund to stock the unauthorized Team Room Bar, check out the situation by talking to the locals, and have a Team Meeting to discuss the merits of the terrorists' cause.
Results of Operation: The Rescue/Recovery Operation would take two weeks to complete and by that time all of the terrorists would have been killed, (and would have left signed confessions); the passengers would be ruined psychologically for the remainder of their lives; and all of the women passengers would be pregnant. The 747 would be essentially unharmed, the team would have taken no casualties but would have used up, lost, or stolen all the "high speed" equipment issued to them.

my brother is currently undergoing rangers training. It is not for the faint of heart. he recently got a day long rest and he was just beat. He had graduated top of his class from pow training but he is finding this as an issue. All he did was eat and sleep on his time off. bathrooms consist of digging a hole in front of yours team. you run on an hour of sleep. he is extremely strong and literally a genius and is finding this to be the most challenging course he has yet to take. Special ops is not so much 'rank' as it is a division of the military and a special operative may very well be an army ranger

Rangers are Tier 3, Seals and Green Berets Tier 2, and Special Forces Operational Detachment 1 (Delta Force) is Tier 1. Rangers are the most motivated and well trained paratrooper infantrymen in the Army. Special Forces "Green Berets" are used for training foreign armies and Delta is used as counter force to hijackings terrorist attacks.
And who knows what those Navy boys do, but they rank in the Tier system.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.
According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.
