I heard big women smell bad and have body odor. I am approx 50 lbs over weight, but I shower before I go to be being meticulous about washing with a washcloth between my legs and everywhere else. It takes me about 10 minutes to shower if I dont shave my legs. I also shower before work every morning and after I get off work.
What is your opinion about overweight people and body odor?

Well, it depends. A person of any weight will smell bad if they do not have good hygiene habits. Someone who is morbidly obese and bedridden is going to smell more than someone who is overweight and showers regularly.

I think that as long as you are conscientious about showering regularly and perhaps paying extra attention to the matter during hot weather or when you get sweaty, there really shouldn't be in issue with body odor. If you are concerned about odor while you are at work, you might want to carry some wet wipes (they can be found in the feminine hygiene aisle).

I think the "smelly fat person" is a stereotype that is often unfairly applied when it is not necessarily deserved. Being fat does not equal being smelly.

It is all a matter of personal hygiene. Diabetics may have a particular smell (nurses and doctors will attest to this). A particular race may have a particular smell. My mother use to tell me that blond hair smells terrible when it is wet. I don't know because I never had a reason to smell wet, blond hair. LOL. I use to have a dog, part chow and part sharpee. She smelled like licorice to me. Babies have a very distinct and lovely smell. Smokers usually have a very noticable smell. To me, the worst would have to be the breath of someone who has a bunch of cavities and doesn't have good dental hygiene! Yuck! I think that is such a general statement to make about big women smelling bad and having body odor. As long as you (or anyone) washes away sweat smells, etc., then I would assume we all smell pretty much the same.

Weight has NOTHING to do with it, dear. It's natural body odor and there's also a cause. You know how people eat a ton of garlic or onions usually smell like...garlic or onions that's because when you digest those stuff, the smell leaks out from your pores and end up making you smell like what you eat. So, it takes the line "You are what you eat." to another level.

Again, weight has nothing to with it. Let's say some average weight person eats, let's say, a big ol' burger with everything on it, and an overweight person eats a cookie. Chances are, average weight person is gonna stink.

I think the main reason that a lot of overweight people smell bad is because poor hygiene seems to go hand in hand with poor diet lack of concern for appearance etc. I have also heard that people who are large enough to have wrinkles of fat can have bacteria growing within the wrinkles which would definitely stink. If you're concerned about how you smell you seem to be doing the right things, and remember true friends will tell you if you have a problem with something like this.

In some cases they really do smell. This is due to the lack of ability to wash themselves, as they are just too fat to reach some things that need to be reached. I worked with such a person and was fired for complaining about the rancor odor that surrounded her for about a 10 foot radius. Nasty!

That's not really the case. The combo of people who don't wash properly and are overweight is usually why it's a common misconception that overweight people smell bad. As long as you're being careful and keeping your cleanliness at a healthy level everything should be fine. =]

I now weigh 270, and I find myself taking more showers now because I am prone to stinking. I do not stink because I take showers, but if I didn't I would stink more compared to if I weighed 200 pounds. The reason is because the skin streaches, and in your body, you have pores or holes that breath and give off odor, well when the skin streaches more, the pors open to allow smell to come out.

No more propensity for body odor than a skinny girl- basically good hygiene and grooming take care of the problem for any woman of any size. A good feminine hygiene product works wonders.

Typically people who are overweight eat more. (though some have glandular problems) and they eat more unhealthy foods with more chemicals which causes a stronger odor. Some people, if they are heavy enough, have a hard time washing themselves though, and smell because of that and their diet.
