A friend of mine caught a Blue Catfish on the Lowery avenue bridge back in about 1955. It was in the Tribune paper as the first and only real live and authority checked catfish (blue) North of Iowa as far as I know. That was on the Mississippi river in Minneapolis.
So, going by this I would guess your catching catfish but, not Blue catfish.
We used night crawlers, the big juicy kind. A big gob of them on a no. three hook and lots of weight to hold it down once settled.
