In my experience, there are two types of jobs that are fine with body mods: those where you are expected to have body mods (i.e. tattoo artist, artists/creative people in general) and jobs that require a high level of technical skill. My profession is in the latter, and I have extensive body mods: ears stretched to 1 3/4 inches (44mm), center labret, nipple rings, and over 200 hours of tattoo work, covering both arms, back, chest and even some on my neck. I work as an engineer. I have an advanced degree and work at a software company developing computational models. I earn much more than $7.25 an hour.

Ofcourse their allowed. Do you think their is a tattoo police man that walks around the firehouse looking for tattooed fire fighters?

Just like everyone else said, of course, as long as they are tasteful. I mean, it's not like they are walking around half naked trying to put out a fire...although that would be nice...

Depends on the department. Our policy says no tattoos visible while in uniform. Pretty lame

they can have all they want...being a fire fighter is just a job...not something that stops you from putting a little ink into your skin

Yes they are but you have to check with your Captain what is acceptable. Usually you have to be able to hide your tattoos while at work.

I don't know about all departments, but my son is a firefighter/paramedic and he has several tatoos. No problem.

Yes, the only time when i might be a problem is when they have any on their neck.

I would say that it is okay just as long as it is nothing to bad or inappropriate or something.
