Why would you say anything at all? You have your life, and they have theirs....opinions are all your own, and if asked for one, then gladly give it, but otherwise, it's really none of your busines what someone else is doing...unless it's illegal...then by all means make your voice known!

I don't smoke, and I don't like it, but I'm sorry, you are not going to change ANYONE's mind about quitting unless they want to. Your opinion means nothing.
If I see people drinking then I join in. Last time I checked, drinking doesn't hurt you unless you do it in excess. All of Europe drinks wine and liquor, and people drank nothing but alcohol every day back before they had ways to keep water sanitary because it was basically liquid bread (watch the History Channel for more info). Lots of countries (even the kids) drink wine or some such at dinner and/or lunch, and they seem to be fine and in good health.

If a friend of mine or a close relative started smoking or drinking excessively I would certainly say something to express my concerns and negative opinion. If I see strangers doing it I just ignore it. They'd hardly care what I think.

ask them do they love their family or loved ones.if they do say yes now it's time for what people say as reverse psychology.in this method you don;t say STOP SMOKING AND DRINKING right away but you must let them think of something elses.example:
you:i can see that you love your husband/wife very much
friend:of course i do.why?
you:nothing.just wondering what would happen to them 15 or 20 years later.
friend:but why?
you:well it's no hiding anymore that smoking and drinking could cause you lung and liver cancer.i hope they still someone to be loved by the time if you keep this rate of smoking and drinking
well it's something like that...
try it

-sigh- This is a really really really touchy subject and actually right now I'm going through a bit of a problem with it also.
I just told the person that was doing drugs that it wasn't something I liked seeing them doing, but I knew I couldn't force them to change just for me. Don't try to control a persons life, but do what you can to help them to get better. They have to make the decision for themselves that they want to be better, they won't try if you force them.

Smoking I'm not too fond of but drinking? As long as they aren't drinking to excess, I don't see the problem.

The only people you have the right to criticise for ANY of their actions are the people you feel have the right to criticise you for yours.
