I live in BC, Canada and last night I woke up with a really bad bite on my hand. We've been leaving windows open because of the heat so I think it might be a spider bite. It was a white circle when I woke up and it wasn't too painful just VERY iritating to the point where I was almost in tears. I wasn't really sure what to do so I doused my hand in After Bite which seemed to work.. but now the side of my hand is purpleish and a vein on the side of my hand is suddenly very visable. Iv'e been looking for spiders in my room because i really dont want to be bitten again, the feeling was unbearable. Does any one know what kind of spider it could be or if it was even a spider?

The Brown Recluse Spider lives in Canada (B.C.) as well as here in the United States..They have a tendency to move inside for warmth and are commonly found in shoes in a dark areas (closet) or in or under beds under covers. If the pain was as intense as you have described, and I believe it was you should seek medical attention as soon as possible and not put it off. This spider bite kills healthy tissue and it can actually spread if left untreated. There are also additional complications if the bite is not treated timely (nerve damage to your hand) After-bite will just numb the area temporarily, not fix the problem. Do yourself a great favor and go to a doctor. If it was a spider it can be identified by the wound and a blood test. Better safe than sorry........My own brother was bitten by one in Anchorage, Alaska 3 years ago. He still has problems with his hand and arm.......

It sounds like it could be a brown recluse spider, better known as the violin spider. This spider lives near the base boards of homes and is brown in color and has a violin shaped image on it. This can be very dangerous for you. You need to get immediate help with this. The first 48 hours are the most critical.

The problem with this spider is that it injects poison into the skin and it is flesh eating. There is not much that can be given to you in the later stages to help and that is why it is critical to go see a doctor right away to determine whether or not it is a brown recluse bite.

good luck to you

If your "bite" keeps getting worse, you need to get to a doctor as soon as possible as the necrosis can get pretty severe without treatment.

There is really not a good way to tell what kind of spider/bug bit you without the culprit in hand. If not a spider, do you think it could be a tick bite?

This spider may be a white-tailed spider I'm not sure if there poisonous or not. I suggest you see a doctor as soon as possible so your doctor can tell you exactly what it is and what's going to happen.

If you see red streaks on your skin that appear to be coming from the spider bite call your doc asap. If the irritated area covers an area larger than 2 inches diameter see a doc. If it is just too painful to stand see a doc. Otherwise, take Benedryl for swelling and Motrin for pain.
