Let the cat come out when it wants, she's probably scared of the dog and needs time to adjust to having a new animal in the house. Just keep water in her spot and food nearby (where she can see it) and eventually she'll get hungry and come out for it. As far as the pissing and pooping goes she probably just pissed off (no pun intended) on having to share you. When I got a new puppy she constantly bothered my cat and he got so mad that one day he crapped in her food dish! And I kicked my cat out of my room when I training my new dog and he pissed on my favorite pair of shoes. There's nothing you can do about that. Just try to spend more alone time with her and show her you still love her. I've tried everything and I have yet to find something that works. That happened 16 years ago and my cat still does that when he gets mad. He definitely gets his point across.

It may take a while for the cat to accept the dog as part of the household.

In the meantime, create a space just for the cat where she/he feels safe and the dog cannot invade. Put her/his food, water, litter box, toys and bed there. Most of all...give her/him lots of attention, so she/he doesn't feel 'forgotten' with the arrival of the dog!

Try one of the pheromone base scents for cats. I believe you can get them in a spray and I have attached a link for the kind you plug in to an outlet. I haven't used them, just heard of them.

There are flower essences too. Try Bach's Rescue Remedy (about $10 - $15 in health food stores--I got mine at GNC). I am using the Rescue Remedy for my 17 yo cat that is ill and it has helped her and me! Rescue agencies use this when bringing in new animals to ease them into the changes.

How long it takes will depend on your cat and the new dog. Give it some time..at least a month, maybe two.

Hope these ideas help...purrs and prayers to you!

I don't know how long you have been waiting but I would say wait until the cat comes out. It is going to take the time for your cat to adjust to having any new animal in its territory, especially a dog.

Whatever you do, don't force them to be together if they are not ready.

If you have to provide water for your kitty in its hiding place do so, but eventually kitty will get hungry and then will be more likely to venture out. If this doesn't happen and the cat doesn't come out to use the box within 24 hrs you may have to revise your plan. Remember cats are stealthy- kitty may sneak out when both you and the dogs are asleep.

the cat will come out when it wants to. don't hurry it along. it was his house first and he will determine how to handle the dog. just let them do it on their own time.
