I am looking to buy a classic car to build with my nephews, but not something so main stream. I want something fairly easy to find, but still looks nice. Anything would be appreciated....

I really liked the Chevelles from that era...they were awfully nice looking cars...even the ones that didn't have the enormous "muscle car" motors.
I also liked the Plymouth Barracuda (1969 was probably their best year for looks).
And I had a friend with a 1973 Dodge Challenger convertible that was one of the prettiest cars I've ever seen.
Good luck with the project...

Without a doubt.... THE best looking classic, and one still fairly easy to come across would be the 1966 Chevrolet Full Size Impala/Caprice. Caprice definitely being the sleeper, and my favorite in this catagory... but they are beautiful cars. Mine... a 66 Caprice, two door hardtop - turquoise, black vinyl top, black interior with the tall back Astro bucket seats and floor console with the gauges mounted at the front.
Some had a clock in the gauge package cause the tach would go there...in the dash, mine... it had the vacuum gauge down on the console .
BUT the tach WAS in the dash, because the clock was one of those little pod type ones that mounted on top of the dash! A pretty neat option!
These cars were more prone to Option Overload than any Camaro or Chevelle ever thought of being... mine had A/C, a tilt steering column... padded dash and an AM/FM -STEREO!!! Oh yes.. stereo in 66 ~ my multiplex unit tells me so!
This one had cruise control too- which was good as it takes a whole lot of foot to keep on those 390 horses that the 396 big block puts out.
To tell the truth though... there probably were a few more horses under the hood than that because a couple years ago I did the UNTHINKABLE by removing the factory air cleaner... the exhaust manifolds, and then put more.... better dual exhaust on her so she could BREATHE as she run down the road -but not to worry, those parts were all carefully stored away so that I could
'Keep My GM Car.... All GM' .

I added an open element air cleaner, allowing for a little more air to get in... and headers, which added a bit more of a growl (AND more air!) to her big block rumble.
The exhaust.... 2-1/2 inch... straight back x 2.
Yes, a very HEALTHY rumble!
I've kept and run the original 4jet carb....
I got me a quadrajet genius who keeps it in top shape, much better mileage and beats the hell out of a Holley... any day of the week! Did I mention... Posi-traction yet? With highway gears!

Let's see.... she's got front and rear bumper guards, a remote outside driver's door mirror and a nice straight body.
Ever see one of those optional factory luggage racks... like the corvettes had?
Add one just like that...except made for the big car, then make sure and put it where it's supposed to go.. right on top of the deck lid!
Now before you go all visual on something you probably couldn't even imagine.. much less ever saw, all I can say is GORGEOUS! ..and almost the finishing touch.

That honor is reserved for the other non-original thing I did to this car that just sets the whole thing off... I added a set of 15/8 Corvette Ralley Wheels!
Had them painted the same turquoise color as the exterior and no, NO trim rings. Put a set of those small, flat Bowtie wheelcovers on them - the ones that were 66 only...Taxi and Police car.... and then mount some low profile tires!

PERFECTION!!!!!
Absolute Perfection.

Excuse me now as I cry a bit ...this last winter,
my baby was in the small garage where she spent every winter, and when the adjoining shop caught fire, the whole thing burnt down with her in it.

The air cleaner, exhaust manifolds, spare headlight bezels I always kept around... along with the 4 speed console I was hanging onto with the hopes of one day putting a factory 4 speed in her... I still have those... guess I'm keeping them for 'seed' as I am of course ...looking.

These 65/66 Full size Chevrolets... they just don't come any nicer looking, roomier or with the long list of REALLY neat options like those did... they can still be found too, and more often than not they are the 'little old lady' Caprices that end up being LOADED with comfort options... These are out there, blindly overlooked by the SS guys and others who never even thought of a family car... a grocery getter, as something sporty, fast and showy enough to be considered a 'muscle car'.

But hey - think about it...
65 Biscayne ....409!!!!! The possibilities are endless!

My next 66 Full Size? I'm keeping my eye out for a wagon - a Caprice Woody Wagon.

1974-1977 Ford Maverick. The "grabber" models were a 2-door coupe with a Mustang 302.

You can get parts at any Ford dealer. You don't see many of them around any more, the 2-doors do look pretty sharp. They're pretty decent on gas, too.

Or you could look at a Toyota FJ55 "Iron Pig" Land Cruiser. Much more rare but still relatively cheap.

Good luck!

I'd go with a Olds 4-4-2 or maybe just a cutlass. They aren't as well known, but they are still classic muscle.

1968 mercury cougar would be a cool choice. parts should be easy to find it has the same running gear as the mustang. go with a fuel injected 302 out of a newer model ford mustang, crown vic, or t-bird.

AMC Gremlin, some came with a 304 V8, that's a lot of engine for a little car.

Skylark? Cutlass? Barracuda/Challenger? How about something off-the-wall, like a Javelin or AMX?
