Can someone please tell me everything you know about maltese puppies. I want to own a maltese puppy and I would like to know all the pros and cons of owning this breed of dog.

It's a very nice breed! They need ro be groomed and brushed or their hair will get matted! But it really depends on what you were going to do with it! If you're planning on showing it then you will need to spend a considerable amount of time grooming your dog so they will be in show coat. But if it's just a pet then a puppy clip is recommended. This is a hair cut that is done too about 1 inch above the skin. It eliminates matting and you will have to brush them less. Obviously you will aslo have to bathe and brush their teeth regularley, but the maltese tends to be a smell free dog. The maltese also have a hypo allergenic coat and they don't shed. They are very strong willed but they can still be trained pretty easily.They are generally good with children but being a small dog they can get snappy! Good Luck!

A great place to get really good advice is to join one of the yahoo groups that specialize in maltese. The most important thing to know when considering ANY breed is how to find a reputable breeder. Added: NEVER go to a petshop. They are NOT educated on ANY breed. Almost all petshop dogs are puppymill products, as a reputable breeder would NEVER sell puppies to a petshop

you could get books or read articles about the breed. or go to a pet store and ask about them. all dogs are different on behavior. it depends on how you raise it.
