who go out of their way to intensely describe themselves as being Christian?

Also, isn't the adjective "Christian" as in "a Christian home", "a Christian family", "a Christian upbringing" kind of cliche? It immediately sets the stage for who is part of the team and who is not welcome.

I understand what you mean - that's my immediate reaction at times too, but I try to restrain it and get to know the person underneath. If fanatical belief is the ONLY thing the person ever showis me in our social dealings, I distance myself after a couple of meetings.

But often, people suprise me. And that's good. I've made some great Christian friends who came off as intense at first, but aren't so much so when you get to see the more varied and complex being that is them.

I think your referring to hypocrites. A true christian would never Go out of there way make others feel unwelcomed. I do feel like many "christians" act more like a cult member than the way they should. Guess thats why it took me so long to become one.

Perhaps for the same reason some people with cavities tend to distance themselves from dentists?

I agree...I mean, if you need to define EVERYTHING like that....that's a tad too much for my taste. I prefer people who are comfortable with themselves and their beliefs that they have no need to broadcast it.

I have no desire to delve into the insanity called 'Christianity' either.
Why is it, you ask?
Maybe you just have a clue.

It's the scary glaze over in their eyes that distances me.
