It is not necessary to crop his ears. If you like them natural keep them natural. The only reason they started croping pits ears in the first place was so that in dog fights their ears wouldn't get ripped off. I have never really liked the look of dogs with their ears done, but its a matter of preference of the owner. Whoever said it is a MUST to get his ears done, well they are a moron.

Cropping refers to surgically slicing off area of the dogs's ear so the ear can upward push up. After the ears are cropped they're taped up for countless weeks so the cartilage hardens in a status place. Cropping must be accomplished by 8-12 weeks of age or it won't artwork because of the fact the cartilage will already be hardened interior the organic place. that's tremendously a tremendously uncomplicated factor with countless breeds. i in my view do no longer crop my dogs's ears as i think that's pointless, even however that's a private decision for dogs proprietors. Edit: i like how i'm getting a thumbs down for between the sole appropriate solutions! This asker wasn't inquiring on your opinion, she became asking what it skill! stable grief human beings, get off your soapboxes, she became in basic terms inquiring for concepts!

No..
at the age of 1 years old, it is way too late to have any breed of dogs ears cropped..
We breed registered Boxers and we do not alter their ears. It is not necessary according to AKC standards. However, we must always have their tails done and dew claws removed. This procedure is done before all pups are 2 weeks old. if we did choose to crop their ears, it would have to be done by the vet before they are 3 months old..the sooner, the better. ( the reason being is so the pup has no memory or trauma )
Personally, I love the look of a Boxer with full, natural ears. We also have our pups tails done short ( the "nubby" look ) ..this is just preference. I have noticed many breeders who have gotten away from the "nubby" and have tails done between 3 and 4 inches...

At 1 year old he's too old to crop them anyway without causing severe pain to the dog. Leave them natural - they're just as attractive, without the pain of mutilation.
And no, it's not a "MUST" to crop a pit's ears. In my opinion the only people who would say it's a MUST are the people who are using the dog as a penis extender on a leash and who think it makes them look "tuff".

I am a Vet Tech... We cropped a pit's ears the other day. She was 3 months... I haven't seen them do it at a yr old. It might be too late. Plus you need to make an appointment to see if your dogs ears will stand up. Your vet will be able to look at it tell you. Pit don't ususally have a problem with ears standing... dobermans and great danes are a little more difficult to make stand.
Anways... no you don't have crop his ears. They look cute w/o them done... don't do it!
Good Luck

I have two and neither of them have their ears cropped. It is not a must, they look fine just the way they are. Besides at the age of one i dont think there are too many vets that will do it, supposed to be way younger. And if you try someone that is not a vet, come on something could really go wrong!

There's actually a lot of blood involved with that.. it's not like cropping a tail when a dog is a puppy. It's way more complicated and basically unnecessary, especially in this day and age. If you like him the way he is, then why is that even an issue? Who cares what other people say he "should" be like. He's your dog, do what you feel is best for him. Good luck! :o)

Please don't crop your dog's ears! He or she is YOUR dog, you make the decisions for his or her future. It tends to cost a lot as well, and one year old is too old to be crop a dog's ears. This practice (cropping of the ears) is beginning to look more and more barbaric, and rightfully so. Anyway, enjoy your pit pup! I personally love the breed, and I'm glad you are thinking about this before you go ahead with the procedure.

It is really to late to even consider cropping the dog's ears. Cropping is usually done between 8-12 weeks, but have seen them done at 16 weeks & that is the latest I have seen it done!!!

No!
It is uncessarily cruel and Pits look much nicer with floppy ears.
In most western countries ear cropping has been outlawed for decades and tail docking has meanwhile followed.
Even at the risk that my two Dobie friends will eat me alive: ALL dogs log cuter with their natural ears and normal tails.
