This seems to be a faze all teenage boys go through. They think it's cool, or like you said their bored. But that does not make it right. You don't say how much he drinks, so I can't really say he's an a alchoholic.
But I would be sure I don't get in a car with him or his friends, when they are doing so. You don't want to become a statistic.
You don't say if he is out of school yet or when he will be getting out of school. I would suggest he look for a job, and then he will have something to do with his time, rather than drink. It must really bother you or you would not have asked this question.
You might want to find another boyfriend, that does not drink, and has more potential.

I know exactly how you feel as I went through the same thing. My boyfriend used to drink about twice a week with a few of his friends. Although I knew his friends well, I was worried that he might get into other things (ie. smoking ----). So I took it really seriously and just talked to him about it.
I'm sure you are going through somethign similar. Just sit down with him or when you are alone with him, bring it up and tell him that you are worried and it hurts you too see him like that. Sure he probably has nothing to do, but atleast tell him to lower it. Tell him to get a job that will keep him occupied, or spend time with him and keep him away from alcohol.
It's upto you hun, you can make it work. just keep the conversation lines open.
I guess this answers that all guys have things in common.

How much does he drink? If he's drinking 3 beers a week, I wouldn't call him an alcoholic. What troubles me is the illegality and his age. His body is still growing. When he grows up, there'll be plenty of time for drinking. I would try to help him, if I were you. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon behavior. When I was 18, I went to parties where like 90% drank underage.

If it's just on the weekends and not interfering with school and stuff I think it's fine. He will grow out of this stage sooner or later. Tell him to get a job though he's 17!! How does he pay for the liquer? I hope his parents aren't, that would be messed up!

He isn't a drunk he is just being a teenager. My grandpa was a drunk before he died - he went through a big bottle of cheap vodka every day. Your "bf" should be more worried about getting arrested for underage drinking.

i don't think that it is normal to drink that much either you bf might need help and u might want to tell an adult or someone who can help him before it ends up in a more serious situation like the logo don't let friends drink and drive make the right choice!

Well, if you feel like he's drinking too much, you should tell him. Tell him it makes you uncomfortable and it could be dangerous for him. Help him get a job.
If he doesn't do anything and wants to sit on his lazy butt drinking, leave him.
