The owner should be in big trouble and his dog should be taken away. Did he kill your dog? I am so sorry if your dog was injured. If it was a pit or other aggressive breed then yes he should be destroyed. He could have hurt a child.

It is hard to believe a strange dog just walked into your house. How would he open the door? This is like a nightmare!!!
I read your dog was killed. This is soooo freaky!

This is devastating. How horrid. I cannot bare the thought. I am so very sorry for your loss.

You cannot put to sleep a dog that does not belong to you.

It is someone's property and this is the Law. You, however, can take legal action.

Call the police, file a report. Identify the dog and owner. The police may ask if you want to file charges. The dog needs to be quarantined for rabies. The body of your dog will have to be take to a veterinarian who will determine the cause of death........ sorry...... but this is clear evidence.

The police or animal control shelter should be able to tell you the city or county or state law. You could look this up on your city government and put in "animal control," "animal law," or ask the police or animal control how to find it.

Once again, I am so sorry.

Your post leaves one with a lot of questions. First, how did this dog get into your house? Was the door open? Secondly, was he hostile? Did he threaten to bite you or growl at you menacingly?

When you say he "got to" your small dog, I am wondering if they were fighting or if he got to your small dog sexually. If they were fighting, was your dog horribly injured? Did it die? Were you faced with expensive vet bills?

If he "got to" your dog sexually, I would say he was doing what dogs do. I once had a dog camp on my doorstep for a week, refusing to budge, because the love of his life was inside the house.

Get your dog spayed, if it is female. That will save you a lot of trouble. And, no, unless it is a life-threatening brute, your invader should not be put to sleep, but you might inform the owners that they had better keep their dog confined.

Your dog or the other dog, and why do you want to put the dog to sleep? If your dog is not hurt, leave him alone.

well it depends on how big the other dog was or how small the other dog was or if they were both the same size! that may not make any sense, but we now have 2 dogs one is a Chinese chin and the other is a Yorkshire the chin is 3 weeks old and the Yorkshire is like 10 years old and her name is Missy and she just does not get along with our Chinese chin!

No, but there's a website where it lists dogs that have attacked other animals, or people. The dogs owner is probably neglecting it, or he may have had an abusive owner in the past.
