My puppies like to sleep on the air vent in the kitchen. Is tis ok?

Just to make something PERFECTLY clear. I am in no wa a breeder. My dog(Heniz 57) had puppies 2 weeks after realized she was even pregaent. I know that the 1st weeks they need to be kept warm, but @ 4 weeks I just wanted to make sure. They seem to like it and if I move them they DO just head back to the area. I've never had to care for a litter before, because Sugar is teh first female dog we've had. I have called the vet with questions I've had about feedings(forumla and such). They are quite fluffy. Their mom is half Chow/Lab and we think the dad is Lab. We thought she wasn;t in heat anymore when we let her go out to use the bathroom. Thanks for helping a first timer.

Puppies need a warm, draft free area. Warm - not boiling.

If your house is very warm they may be too hot and this is their only option to cool off. If they are feeling too cold when you pick them up then I would maybe put something over the vent so they are not getting too cold or you find a way to block their access to the vent. What breed of puppies are they? They seem to like it so I would just watch them closely unless you think they are getting too cold.

It depends on how what kind of temperature the air is. If it's cold air, then that's not good. New born puppies need it to be warm. If it's warm air, keep the bed they sleep on at least five inches away from it so they don't burn themselves on the vent.

Yes i supose it would be, but it also might be a tad bit cold if its warm air then no they will be fine, they are just looking for a warm place, like some pets if you get them use to sleepiing on the bed with you then that is where they will sleep from now on!

It's fine....won't hurt them a bit. If they didn't like it there they would move. If they're confortable leave them there. If you move them they just might head right back to the vent. Its summer, they enjoy the breeze. My dog always sleeps on the vents, its cool and rereshing especially when the air conditioning is on.

I am sorry, but if you have to ask questions on Yahoo answers, then you should not be breeding dogs. You should have all the answers. Quit being a back yard breeder and get your female spayed.
