ok maybe not all priests and pastors but you must admit it is a bit of a problem. Its just that some of these people truly think that they are men of god but still do this. I cant understand you saying teachers and stuff do it more often. But you could expect them to do it more often because they arent claiming to be men of god.

Pedophiles and Priests: Anatomy of a Contemporary Crisis.

Since 1982, 400 Catholic clergy (out of a total of 50,000 American priests) have been accused of sexual misconduct with minors. In this in-depth study, Jenkins, professor of history and religious studies at Pennsylvania State University, examines the circumstances surrounding the molestation charges that peaked in the early 1990s. He looks at such prominent cases as those of Father Bruce Ritter, founder of Covenant House, who was forced to resign in disgrace in 1990; and the notorious Rev. James Porter, who may have molested more than 100 children before he was convicted and sentenced to prison.

Because they have vowed not to marry so regular relationships with women are out. But they still have sexual feelings and sometimes they feel like they need to express those: the easiest people to do that with are young people who are under their care, who look up to them and will do what they say. It's really unfortunate. I wish the Catholic church would allow priests to marry and I think at least a little bit of the problem would be eliminated.

You should really check the facts on this one. I'm not defending child molesting priests, but take a look at the number of Protestant pastors that do the same.

This is a problem running out of control across the board.

Catholic priests cannot marry or date, so maybe that's why. And, they are perverts. Plus many catholic priests are priests because it's a job for them, they get paid, they choose it as a career. Real priests are called upon by God, it's their lifes calling. All those people who touch children will have their day before the throne.

"Since the primary motive of the evil is disguise, one of the places where evil people are most likely to be found is within the Church. What better way to conceal one's evil from oneself, as well as from others, than to be a deacon or some other highly visible form of Christian within our culture?...I do not mean to imply that the evil are anything other than a small minority among the religious or that the religious motives of most people are in any way spurious. I mean only that evil people gravitate toward piety for the disguise and concealment it can offer them."

"Heaps"? Do you have a source for that?

"The physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests." Professor Charol Shakeshaft, sexual aduse researcher

Perspective. No one claims "heaps" of teachers are pedophiles, so why claim it about priests?
