babysisterchrissy- Apparently they ARE too dumb to use birth control if they have to get an abortion.

gjls -" No method of birth control is 100% effective." ?????
I think not! Ever heard of keeping your legs shut? It's physically impossible to get pregnant when you're abstainant.

Because they advocate planned parenthood. If you aren't ready to be a parent then they provide you with protection so you can hopefully avoid having an unplanned pregnancy. And if the protection doesn't work then there is always the abortion option - so that every child is wanted and loved.
Some of you obviously ditched your 8th grade health classes, or perhaps were enrolled in the 'abstinence only' curriculum... using protection does NOT always protect against pregnancy. And while some people get pregnant by being careless a lot also get pregnant when they were being careful. No method of birth control is 100% effective. The assumption that everyone facing an unplanned pregnancy wasn't using birth control is completely FALSE. Stop judging people you don't know and whose shoes you have never walked in. I can guarantee that you are not perfect either.

Essentially Planned Parenthood was started to promote the use of Birth Control from 2 different factions in the 1930's and 1940s. These different factions had varying ideas on "race building" after WWI.
This is a very fascinating link about the history of planned parenthood

They offer a lot more than just abortions. Some clinics offer prenatal care during the first trimester for low income women. They offer counseling to people who have lost children to miscarriage. They give family planning classes as well as sex education. Actually they aren't a non stop abortion factory like some people think they are.
Its the planning of a family overall no matter how you look at their services.
edit-people do use birth control and still get pregnant its not unheard of... although i don't sympathize with the people who use abortion for birth control i do think that in certain circumstances it may be the best thing for an individual.

Because they advocate "planning parenthood", as in using protection to prevent it until you're ready and have "planned it out". Instead of not using condoms/ birth control, and becoming pregnant when you're not ready to.

planned pregnancy is when you are actually trying to get pregnant and protection is for someone who doesn't want to get pregnant and abortions ( not in all cases but most) are for those idiots out there who dont feel its necessary to use protection but dont want a baby. ( I didn't say all)
I tryed to conceive my baby girl for over a year therefore i didn't use protection and had no need for an abortion. My baby girl was PLANNED

it means that you plan to have a baby when you are ready, not because you are too dumb to use birth control

Because parenthood is something one should "plan" not just fall into because they have sex. So giving safe sex alternatives helps people wait to have a family until they PLAN it.
