Christians: you are at a cliff, there are two people hanging off the cliff slipping, yelling for help person #1: they're a non-believer, they're a total stranger and have had a rough life of sex, drugs and alcohol....person #2: your best friend, they are a Christian and even though has messed up sometimes in life loves the Lord with all their heart......who would you save if you could only save one?

I would save the unbeliever, and pray that the loss of my best friend resulted in the person being saved. I would of course, attempt to help my friend once the stranger was safe, but you said I could only choose one.
"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Pet. 3:9).

What a weird question.
I think in a time like that, there is no real choice, but one's first reaction. Most would be driven to save their best friend first, because of the relationship. If I had time to think about this choice, that would mean I'd have time to save them both, in which case the question wouldn't exist.
Any way you slice it, its a horrible catch-22, because if you don't save your best friend, you have to live with that guilt for the rest of your life. If you do save your best friend, you've let an innocent stranger fall to his/her death without ever knowing the Lord. Another irreconcilable memory that you'd have to live with until your day of judgement.
If I HAD to, and I mean absolutely had to only choose one to save, I would save person #1. I already know my Christian friend has led a good life, and will soon be where I wish to be someday. Person #1 will now have a chance to be saved.
In any case, if this event were to actually happen, I know that I would be driven by the Holy Spirit to the right choice, regardless of the actions of my mind, heart or body. God would lead the way, and I would be almost fully out of control.
In truth, my question would be why am I standing at the edge of a cliff with these two people?
You're very strange and sadistic.

My question is: if #1 is a total stranger, how would I know he had a rough life of sex, drugs and alcohol?
But anyway, I would save #1. I already know where #2 is going, except maybe before I got there...LOL
Yahshua did not come to heal those already healed, He came to save the sinners. So, in this example, in saving the sinner, it would be showing the PERFECT EXAMPLE of what He came to do.

Not really a dilemma for Christians but a general question for all. Would you save your best friend or a stranger? I would say everyone instinctively you would save your loved ones first. Just think of living with the guilt that you let your best friend die as compared with you let a stranger die.

Of course I would try and save them both, but if I only could save one- I would try and save the non-believer, because that would give him/her another chance to except Christ- and I would think that the Christian who is hanging on the cliff would say the same thing.

A dilemma for anyone....
Theoretically, if #1 was a complete stranger I wouldn't know those things about him/her, so it would be hard to make the judgement call you're asking to be made.
If it were a real scenario, I would probably save the one that I thought I had the best chances of rescuing without bringing harm to myself. I don't think I would be able to use the moral compass to decide because there's no time to really think about it.
If I had time to think about it, I would probably choose to rescue person #1 and think my best friend would make the same decision (to let me fall, that is) if she were in the same scenario - at least I hope she would. She and I are both ready to meet our maker.

on one hand I would definitely go for my best friend, because he is my best friend and i would owe it to save him, I would hope he would do the same thing for me. 9 times out of 10 I would naturally go for the God loving christian.
on the other hand I could save the non-believer hoping the following could happen. I would hope that my act of kindness would change the non-believer towards God and the it would be worth it. What would happen to my friend,? Well,if he was a true believer his soul would be saved and they would soon be in better place. Soo ultimately I hope I could try and turn two souls to God
strangely I think my second choice would be the better one in the end
How about that answer

How is this based on faith, whatsoever?
If person #1 is a complete stranger, how would you know extensive details about their past?
And it's very likely that a majority of people would save their best friend over a stranger, Christian or not.

My friend will come first...of course. By the way, if the other person is a total stranger to me, how would I know he had a rough life of sex, drugs and alcohol?

Thoredically, they should pick person #1 so they can try to "save" them, knowing full well that their friend will go to heaven. However, it is a scary gamble. Do you save your friend who can save countless others or person #1 who you try to save from eternal damnation, but really only end up pulling them from the cliff.
