What can the church do to make ammends and move forward?

They need to be completely transparent! Make monetary settlments if need be. Show everyone that they are taking steps to prevent these abuses from happening in the future.

What do you think?

Well , that is exactly what the Church has done. Now we may all pray that other ecclesiastical groups do the same and address their problems with clergy sexual abuse which is a much higher incidence than among Catholic clergy.

I think that all of a sudden, some 25 year old guy decided that he was molested as a child by a priest and money was awarded. Immediately, it became fashionable to sue the Catholic church because people say that they suddenly remember that they too were molested. I think thats crap. I think that yes, it happened, but not to the extent that people are saying.
I saw a girl on TV last night who was awarded a huge sum of money and she was in tears saying that the money is nice but it can never repay the horror she lived through.
If it was so horrible, why did she wait until she was 35 to report it? It sickens me that people take advantage of something like this. It also sickens me that some children were abused by priests.
And yes, the church needs to take steps to show that they are doing something to prevent abuse in the future. With that I agree. But all these people taking money from the church... some of it is untrue.

The Roman Catholic heirarchy made a public apology. It also made sincere efforts to compensate those who suffered.

There was full transaprency over the matter as it was elevated to the courts. However, we also need to look after the privacy and protection of the victims if they choose not to disclose the matter.

We can now all move forward.
