or someone who REALLY knows cars. When you have to change a flat and put the smaller temporary spare tire on the car, which is almost always smaller and not as wide as the stock tires, does this affect the operation of the anti lock brakes and the EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution)? The ABS light did not illuminate but I'm still curious.

It doesn't affect your brakes. However it does affect the handling as it is smaller than the rest of the tires. Also the tire is only meant for use to get to a repair shop and is not intended for driving at speeds over 45.

no, your brakes have nothing to do with your tire really. They just stop what the wheel is attached to, therefore slowing it down.
