I've been trying to find an opportunity to get off Cymbalta for about a year now, but theres never a good time, thanks to the incapacitating side effects. Any way, I missed a dose today, and I'm miserable. I'm frightened of the side effects that will come when my doctor and I finally have a chance to wean me off.

Those of you that successfully came off of drugs like Effexor and Cymbalta; what helped you overcome its side effects?

I've talked to my doctor about this many times.

I definitely would not take yourself off, until you have spoken with your doctor. I had been taking Paxil for 6 years for panic attacks and I stopped taking it a year ago. Four months ago I started having horrible panic attacks again, and had to start all over with the side effects of taking them. It is horrible. I would be very careful with coming off of Cymbalta. The effects can change from person to person, but can be very serious. I would continue to take your regular dose until you can get in to talk with your doctor. I hope this helps, and good luck!!

I was on Paxil briefly. Exams and school stressed me out, and I was having panic attacks. The course of Paxil I took was a carefully measured 2-week regimen. It weaned me off gently at the end, so I didn't crash from it, although I was a bit cranky. I coped by drinking a lot of water and meditating. I kept myself as comfortable as possible, and I stayed away from stressful situations as much as possible. Lots of rest helps.

Get a book called "The Antidepressant Solution: A Step-by-Step Guide to Safely Overcoming Antidepressant Withdrawal, Dependence, and Addiction" and his plan.

I would talk with your doctor and your therapist about taking yourself off/ lowering dosages.Quitting cold turkey is a really unhealthy way to do it .you should taper it down on a method that approved.
