If you knew the Bible well enough and had alot of charisma you could become a preacher and possibly become rich! I know there was at least one preacher in history who was secretly Atheist...he was quite wealthy. I mysely consider if of poor character to feed off the weak like that but...

Chicago Dan: he was found out. He lost his job though. I personally think he was a scumbag for doing that.

Don't think I haven't considered it. I would probably make a great preacher, but my conscience would kill me.
Damn my atheist morals.

Ok, first of all, atheists and satanists are not the same. It casts both parties in a bad light to lump them together. Atheists don't even believe in god/higher powers, and Satanists do in that they are their own gods. Plus, Satanism is really misunderstood... look it up and you will see that really they are good people, with a few wackos (like any group) that give them a bad name.
As an atheist, I do know the Bible very well, and that is just further reason for me to be an atheist. I could not ever consider being a preacher, because when I used to use the bible back when I was in a catholic high school, I could never ever keep a straight face when I was presenting "facts" from the bible. I was either laughing at the absurdity of so-called intellectuals taking that stuff literally, or deeply angry because they were using it to justify their hatred for me as a gay atheist.
Anyway, no, I would never ever become a preacher. I'd sooner kill myself than betray reason and ethics like that... why on earth would I abandon my good sense and delude people for selfish gains, when I could help them understand things better? What an evil thing to do!

Good night sister may you sleep peacefully in the knowledge you are one of the chosen because you choose HIM. As far as the preacher part it is an important calling and if God calls you to do that then be careful of the evil one trying to destroy your word and testament. He looks to silence the true preachers of the Gospel. People have told me and especially my husband the same thing. We do spread the word to all we can and council the lost who are seeking Him. God gives us the words we need both from the heart and the Bible. Both my husband and I once danced with the devil, were sinners and lost. But God in His desire to see us not perish convicted our hearts, we heard His call and He has trusted us to carry the Holy Spirit within us and with deeper knowledge and discernment. There is a difference between Christians 'of milk' and Christians of 'meat'----read the first part of Hebrews to get what I am getting at here----The ones of the 'meat' have a bigger responsibility that the others. God Bless.

I think there are a lot of Preacher's out there who don't actually believe in the teachings of Jesus...all they want is money. This is of course not true for all preachers and pastors, I know quite a few that don't get paid much at all...it's those that own their own church that seem to be walking away with all the cash...Jesus wants them to have a new BMW=)

What was this preacher's name? I've actually considered the idea, though I don't really know a whole lot about the bible yet, and I couldn't do it to take advantage of people. I would want to make them doubt it and ask tough questions.

Not all atheists, Satanists, etc, find it "despicable"...I have an idea we have plenty of them behind the pulpit...and even more of them on television.
Watched TBN (Totally Blasphemous Network) lately?
It might be, as you say, of poor character...but it pays extremely well! There are plenty of people out there who would put their integrity down in a heartbeat for the kind of lifestyle these folks enjoy!

The bible talks of wolves in sheep's clothing. If there is a way to make money, and that way happens to be a preacher, then someone who is not a believer will work it. Yes, of course there are athiests in the middle of Christiandom, but just because you speak the speech does not make you a Christian any more than pretending you are wealthy make you such. Bottom line is... God knows the heart, even the dark places.

Unfortunately, a lot of people do, it is called putting sheep clothing over the wolf. And, God knows their evil ways see Jeremiah 12:10-11. And He will deal with these individuals at a later date.....

I knew a rich rebel with such a plan. He wanted a tent revival with female backup singers and was on his way to do it. His rich parents forced him to go to College. You could do it but then you would be a scurrilous as the "real" ministers who do this sort of thing.

If it was a secret how do you know about it? Would be much of a secret anymore. It's like those ghost stories that end with "and nobody survived." Well, how did they find out about it then?
