My daughters school is required a so called Standard School Attire this year. But it says that only cardigans and sweaters are allowed(with a specific color). But no raincoats or outerwear jackets or coats at all. So what about when it is cold do they honestly think a cardigan or sweater will be enough?? Anyone know why they are doing that??

im sure they mean during classes. i cant see a school not allowing students to arrive in jackets... if for whatever reason they do; go to the higher ups. theres no reason for that! im sure they are ok to wear a jacket to school; it will most likely have to be left in a locker though for the day.

I work for a school and our students wear uniforms. Let me say that I do think this is the best thing for school age children from kinder thru 5th to do so. Now as for telling parents what they can wear in jackets/sweaters...I agree on jackets that has any type of symbols/bad wording etc...should not be worn at school. As for color thats a whole different issue with what this world is now presenting in gang colors etc...I believe it should be the parents choice to decide on the color...but at the same time there is no way a school can tell a parent they can not allow there child to wear coats, raincoats etc...it is not policy and most parents do not know this. I believe if a group of parents took it to the superintendent attention and made more of a fuss about it...the parents would win this battle. Tell the school than if they are dictating the school wear, than have them provide the clothing for your child.. Look into your district policy and you can sign a wavier to have your child not wear school uniforms. Parents just don't know their rights and the district is not an institution for our children so they should be concentrating on what curriculum they are bringing into the schools first...Fight for your rights.

I would assume the policy means no coats or jackets worn in the classroom. My daughters middle school does not have a uniform but they have a dress code that includes no jackets, coats, hats, bandanas, or sunglasses worn in the classrooms or halls including the cafeteria and Gym. The reason they do it is so no one can hide any weapons or drugs on their "person".

you can wear a coat to school but must take it off when you get there. If it is cold out you need to protect yourself the uniform is for in school

send her in a jacket anyway, the rules probably apply to being in class. If the school complains then raise a fuss!! Get other parents on your side, for the sake of the kids!
