Why not? It's still an accomplishment. Maybe instead of calling it a graduation gift, call it a completion gift or something?

I never thought of it before, but that is a good idea! Whatever their reasons for dropping out of school were, they made the effort to go back and fix that part of their lives. The GED is no easy test for anyone. They should be recognized in some way for passing the GED.
(note: not all people who take the test are kids). Good question!

I think that kids should recieve a congratulatory gift from anyone who wishes them well now that they have in fact completed their work; adults who obtain their GED may or may not want it to be public knowledge, so ask their spouse, etc, if they would appreciate a gift.
I am not really sure, however, if a party is in order for a GED. On one hand, it takes a lot of guts to to go out and try again at something you failed at on the first try, but high school graduation is, in American society, the marker of adulthood: not sticking out high school is, to some degree, a marker of immaturity. Like a second wedding, smaller gifts and less fancy parties of fewer people are appropriate.

Yes, because they had to study hard to pass the GED.

Yes of course! Why not! They worked hard to get it and it took guts to go back to school to finish what they started before. All the more reason for them to get a nice gift. Be generous and proud!

Maybe not a "graduation" present, but certainly a "CONGRATULATIONS" present is in order.
Have a great day!
