Don't sell your leave back.
Don't sell your leave back.
Take the 18 days as terminal leave.
Why ?
1. it will get you out 18 days earlier
2. You will be paid BAH and BAS along with 18 days of base pay for those 18 days if you take them as terminal leave.
If you sell them back, you only get 18 days worth of base pay.
3. That way you will still be officially in the AF, as you drive back home. Accidents do happen.
3a. And if you get home and decide, omg, i messed up,
I should have reenlisted. Then you are still in the Air Force.
How to figure out the rate ?
Divide your base pay by 30 and then multiply by 18.
In your case, thats $1129.00

I'd love to help ya with this, but I have been out of the United States Air Force, for almost 30 years. I am sure that things are alot different now. I had a month's leave when I seperated. I got the entire month as a bonus for my last check. If you take what your month base pay is, then you will get just over half of that, since you have 18 days. Like I said, I am sorry I couldn't be more help, but it has been along time.

You will lose money if you are collecting BAH if you sell it back. When you sell the leave you only get your base pay (allowances are not included) and it is taxed off the top. So, it is better to just take 18 days of leave and get 18 days of both your base pay and allowances.
If you are only collecting base pay it is kinda a moot point, but you could still take leave and work another job collecting two paychecks for a little over two weeks.

An E-3 with under 4 years makes $1,692 basic pay a month. Divide that by 30 days and you have about $56.40 a day. If you sell back 18 days, before taxes, you'd get $1,015.20. Enough to buy gas to drive home on.
Hey! I DID pay attention in math in school!

Selling back leave is not worth it...take the leave when you seperate and you'll be getting paid for 18 days of service while you sit at home and play video games....keep in mind that while on leave, even terminal leave that you are STILL ACTIVE DUTY AF so don't do anything stupid like smoke a joint...i've known people to get called in off terminal leave for a pee pee test....

Leave can be "sold back" at the time of reenlistment and separation/retirement. For each day of leave you have saved, you can sell it back for one day's base pay (taxable). One can only sell back a maximum of 60 days of leave during a career. It does not have to be all at one time. For example, one could sell back 10 days of leave during their first re-enlistment, then 10 days during their next re-enlistment, etc.

Divide monthly salary by the number of days you are expected to work for a month and that gives you your daily rate times that by 18. Or better still why dont you ask them? They wont cheat you.

Be advised they tax it real good. Just dived your base pay by 31 and the multiply that by 18 that will give you a total before taxes.

Its the square root of Pi divided by half the days sold back, multiply that by 35% and add 4. Or, it will be roughly 10% more than your average bi-monthly wage.
