In my contact lenses it says i have 7.0 myopia and this is supposed to be very high, i started using glasses since i was like 9 years i started in 4.0 in the past years it has been growing like 1.0 every year, i am 17 now and i think i am going to get a 8.0 because i don't see that well anymore, what can i do to make it grow slower, i know it can't be stopped but if there is anything to make it slower and also if this keeps growing then could i get blind? and also i've heard the term legally blind what does this mean?

Relax, you can't go blind from myopia. I have patients who are -12.00 and still see 20/20, one patient who is -22.00 and sees 20/30. Legally blind means that your vision is 20/200 or worse with your glasses on and is due to eye disease not refractive error.

Myopia naturally stops progressing between the ages of 16 and 25, earlier for girls, later for boys. There is no way to slow it. Carrots are a healthy food but food does not affect refractive error progression.

Eyes age, as you age. Lots of things change with age...

First the number thing. The power you are talking about, the -7.00 is the power of the lens that you wear in front of your eye to make it see at distance. Sort of a neutralization lens. Actually your eye is a +7.00 too powerful.

The Power is equal to one over the distance in meters...
P=1/d where the d is in meters.

So if your eye were a +1.00 too powerful, you'd be focused at 1/1=1 meter in front of you and you'd need a -1.00 to move that focal point out. Out to distance.

If you were focused at a half meter in front of you, that would mean you have +2.00 too much power and you'd wear a -2.00 lens.

A third of a meter (about a third of a yard plus a little bit or 15 inches or so), you'd wear a -3.00

A quarter of a meter, -4.00

Sixth of a meter or 1/6 m
would need a -6.00.

You can measure yourself by looking at a fingerprint on your hand, up close. It'll be nicely focused. The slowly move your finger away from you. When you get to the distance that it blurs, in you that'll be 1/7 of a meter or so.

As you age, your lens gets bigger. Gets bigger by layer after layer after layer of lens cells growing just under the surface. By the time you are 45 or so, the lens will be bigger than now, and it'll be harder to bend. That's why at that age people need 'readers'. Again, if they want to read at half a meter which is sort of computer distance, they'd wear a +2.00 or a +1.75. For really close a +2.75 or +3.00 to get them up to about a third of a meter.

This won't blind you. As a -7.00 myope you are in a class of people who have more retinal problems. So before getting this or that surgery, see a retina specialist to make sure you don't have some associated condition related to the myopia, such as lattice degeneration, or peripheral cystoid degeneration, or ?

Nutrition. The orange fruits and vegetables can help. But Omega-3 oils REALLY help. Also the green stuff like beans, broccoli, and kale. Kale is remarkably good for you, but the taste test thing...don't do so good.....

Don't expect to take a pill to be healthy. Eye wise..same issues. Protect your eyes from bright lights. Don't use meds that dilate your pupil but restrict your mind...then go look at the sun because it's really cool. This just burns the retina, the macula portion in the center and no more reading....ever.

The people with your level of myopia do very well with contacts, glasses, and the laser surgeries.

That's a whole separate group of issues.

20/20 is the average vision for people without eye disease. Some people have eyes that can see better than 20/20. If the doctor said you have 20/20 but could use glasses for driving, then you would see better than 20/20 with the glasses.

it really depends on how much you use your eyes
like if you read books a lot, if you stare at the computer screen a lot. Your eyesight will change based on the varying amounts of time you spend on the activites listed.

The only thing i can suggest and don't strain your eyes or stare at the computer screen too much. AND EAT CARROTS
