Yes, California has statutory protections that prevent someone from being sued if they try to help.

To my knowledge-based on CPR and first aid training-that an effort to help someone in a life threatening situation cannot be sued for unintentional injuries which could result from that effort.

Thereare good samaritan laws in every state. If you attempt to help someone in need, such as cpr, and injure them in the process, youn are not liable as you are not a professional such as a doctor or emt.
