I'm not a Christian or have read the entire Bible...but I'll give it a shot.
1.If you see the Holy Trinity...The Holy Father, The Holy Ghost, The Holy Son...now Jesus is considered to be part of the Trinity...so if he refers to his father...he is talking about the aspect of the Trinity that is the Holy Father...that i guess is one explanation.
2.Another way to answer the question...Now..if we as humans...as was Jesus are considered to be the physical, the mental and the spirit(ual)...then that spirit aspect of us...is part of the Spirit of God...so When Jesus calls himself God, or others Call him God...they are correct...in a way...because that aspect of him...the soul/spirit...is God..and is indestructable.....Jesus is God...and then again so are you and I...and ...if He(Jesus) is the Son of God...we are also the son/daughter...children of God....it is the perception
3. Now...if God is..."ALL THAT IS"....then Jesus is part of God...I and you too....the body, mind, soul...the rock on the playground...the grass...the whole shabang....so...Jesus Christ..can be God too.
4. Christians...i think believe...that since Jesus said...that he is "God'' and the 2000 year old or so Bible must be correct in what Jesus said...then Jesus has to be God...and that when he refers to the Trinity...then they is refering to the God Head...the Holy Father...but could have meant the Holy Spirit too...gets a little complicated i guess...christians probably will answer better than this.
5. Jesus could have in effect just been an asthetic/holy man/enlighted human being that realized that all of mankind was one and that God is All That Is...so when he said that "I am the Son of God'...he also meant ..."All humans are the Children of God'....He just knew the truth,...that God is the father of us All....however...the church and christianity..has eventually distorted this...and made it seem...that Jesus was the only Son of God...
Also there are many different variations of the above 5 i could list..but I guess you might get the gist of what i'm trying to say.
I hope my answer was somewhat helpful.
And I hope you don't mind..that I didn't cut and paste a bunch of quotes from the bible or etc....just my thoughts.

There are many scriptures in which Jesus claims to be God Almighty, most I see have been mentioned by others already.
The Old Testament Scriptures state: "No man can see the face of God and live." God could not come to earth in His fully Glorified state, or every living thing would have perished.
Instead He chose to come in flesh, in a way humanity could more easily understand. God Almighty is Christ Jesus in ALL His Glory. We will see Christ Jesus, in ALL His Glory in heaven someday. God Bless You...Peace.

I believed in God for 35 years. Studied both Hebrew and Greek. I no longer believe in the existence of a God. There is absolutely no evidence even in hypothetical circumstances that happen in people's lives that they want to give God or the Devil credit for. Evil is created by men to control other men. And religion is so polluted in today's society by money that if Jesus did actually return he wouldn't recognize his picture, his statue or any other religions artifacts that he is supposed to have something to do with. Jesus Moses Abraham were good men but not Gods. Mohammad and Buddha were also good men but a lot of people have corrupted their teachings as well. It would be nice if religions would support each other rather than condemn each other because they don’t believe the way the other does. So, my advice is love one another try to understand each other and be happy because you only have 75 to 100 years to live so make the best of them.

Here. You do the math:

John Chapter one:

"In the Beginning was the Word."

The Word = God (vs. 2)

You with me so far?

vs. 14 - "The Word (God) became flesh" (became a man) = Jesus Christ.

a lot of doctrine about jesus was applied much later, centuries after the crucifixion. scholars will tell you the gospel writers more than likely wrote them to fit what happened match the old testament scriptures. and christ belongs no where near his name! that comes from the latin word christos which means annointed, and at the time refered to kings who were annointed with oil.

Interesting, the Jews who were opposed to him almost stoned him to death for the very same thought you suggest....

John 10
31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

It is interesting the when the Jews accused him of being a mere man and that he made himself out to be a God, that Christ did not deny it, but rather quoted their own law to them showing this was the case.

Maybe because He said He was.

John 8:58 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"
