my 6-yrear-old cousin is having an operation that requires a general anesthesia. The thing is that he has angel's man syndrom. He's 6 and he cannot talk .And he has no teeth.He lost his baby teeth due to the meds. So he is not eating and he is so thin and small for his age.His doctor suggested that he implants teeth. Not all teeth at least molars to help him eat and grow. Well he's not gonna have teeth like normal kids do. This is so sad I saw him eat once and he broke my heart.He has to suck what ever he's eating untill it's soft .My aunt is scared from the general anesthersia , I just wanna help her and be there for her.

Let your aunt know that it is normal to be scared. My daughter was under general anesthesia for over 4 hours when she was only 6 months old for kidney surgery. We were scared and a lot of praying during the surgery helped us get through. My son was under general anesthesia at one year, but it was a quick surgery to put tubes in his years. My advice...thoroughly discuss this with both the doctor performing the procedure AND the anesthesiologist discussing any and all concerns she has. To help with his trouble eating try getting him to drink instant breakfast mixed with whole milk to get vitamins into his body. And most important, surround herself with a caring support system...friends and family make a world of difference when you endure this type of trial. I commend you for trying to help your aunt...you are a very special person.

As anesthesiologists, we are trained to put children to sleep safely.
Angleman syndrome is something that your cousin's anesthesiologist may not be familiar with because it's rare. The best thing your aunt can do is to contact the anesthesia department at the facility where he is going to be cared for, and alert them that he is coming in.
There may be issues with getting the breathing tube in, or with the use of certain drugs used to paralyze people during surgery.
With advanced notice, the anesthesiologists can research the best ways of dealing with your cousin ahead of time, and develop a plan to care for him.
It would be best to have someone with advanced training in pediatric anesthesia take care of him. DO NOT let a dentist sedate him. There are airway issues that could become serious problems, and he needs someone with advanced anesthesia training.
If your aunt approaches the anesthesiologists with information about his condition, they will be able to give him the best possible care, and he'll do great.
Show this to your aunt.

I feel so sorry for your cousin, tell him that we are all pulling for him. General anestsesia has risks, but if it will end up helping him in the end then its a good thing to do. I had to have general at age 8 for an appendectmy, and I came out just fine. Good luck and God bless.

My son had to be put to sleep when he was 2, and it was very scary, but everything turned out fine. They gave him some liquid medicine that calmed him down before they left the room with him. Try not to let him know how scared you are because it will make him more scared. Best of Luck and I hope everything turns out well.

Does she think he's going to die? Tell her to sit back and relax. The dentist or whoever doing this has probably done this a hundred times, so nothing to worry about. Her worrying will just make things worse for the child.
