I ordered a printer for an employee. My boss told me to get another one. I tried and it has been discontinued. My boss got real snippy and emailed me that she ordered it on-line just the other day. I've checked three times and cannot get that printer. It's a recent discontinued item. What would you say to her if this happened to you?

insult her mother, say something like "Am I to blame that your mom didn't hug you when you were a baby?"

that usually gets your point across

Errrrrr...Since this is a place where you are making your money for the time being, don't say anything confrontational until you understand her stand.

You should call the manufacturer of the printer and ask if they discontuned it.

Ask your boss where she ordered it, she may be looking at a different vendor than you are.

Although a product is discontinued recently, there are still some that floats around stores that havne't sell all the models still on the market.

1st of you have to be very careful in how and what you say, in other words you must be tactful,

2nd, if you tell your boss that the item in question is/has been discontinued and they still say that they just saw it online, then ask for the website, and EBAY don't count. When ordering such items you really want to stay with the manufacturer's website or authorized retailer.

3rd, find another like item that will perform just as the discontinued item will or better and present it to your boss, especially if it's cheaper.

Good luck on your search and hope this helps.

Can we assume that you've tried more than one supplier? Make a list of the suppliers you've tried to order it from - you might want to check some more first - and show it to your boss. Ask her what site she ordered it from, go to that site and try to order it. If they have it, it's time to eat a little humble pie. If not, print out the "discontinued/out of order" response from their site and show it to your boss to prove you've done your best. Then give her 2 or 3 comparable options to choose from. The thing about grumpy bosses is often they're just tired of hearing "I can't" instead of "I can't do that exactly, but here's a solution that may work". Bosses want employees who give them solutions rather than unresolved problems.

i would not take anything the "boss" is saying in an email personally for starters. it's just a job. speak with the manager in person and explain in a professional manner what difficulties you are having and ask advice for purchasing the printer. sometimes, you are dealing with communication errors such as wrong order numbers, etc.

The boss may be rude, an idiot , an assholer, but they're still the boss.
If there are any doubts, look for another job.,

First I'd ask myself if I wanted this job. Then I'd ask myself, 'if I kept this job with a boss who dislikes me...what would life be like'? Pick your battles.

Take this job and... oh wait sorry I was singing a country song. I would not take it personally, I would instead ask her where she ordered it and take it as a learning experience.

Do not take this personally, give her a complement, because she did something you couldn't do, and ask here how she did this. Make
the situation better, don't get upset. Good luck!
