We recommend 4-6 months at our hospital. Before they become hormonal and start to spray.

Make the appointment now. Cats can be spayed or neutered at six weeks of age, as long as they are an appropriate weight. The American Veterinary Medical Association has been endorsing early age (6 to 14 weeks old) spay/neuter since 1993. Younger animals tend to heal even better than the older animals.
This is the truth! There are plenty of answers you have gotten that are urging you to wait until 6 months, or 4 months, or 8 months. DO NOT WAIT! Get it done as soon as they are able - six weeks. There is no reason to wait. Check out some of the websites I put in the source section for more information about how safe and practical early spay/neuter is. PLEASE DON'T WAIT - there are enough homeless, unwanted cats in the world.

Most vets will neuter a male a cat at the age of six months. I would not suggest going later than that, because the cat may spray your home marking his territory, or get another cat pregnant. I don't know of any vets in my area that will do it before 6 months, although I've heard of it being done at 3 months as well.

I spay and neuter all of my pet kittens at approximately 12 weeks old. For boys, the vet just wants to wait until their testicles are fully descended, sometimes it takes til 14 weeks. In six years, none of our kittens have had any problems from being "fixed" this young and we have prevented a number of unwanted pregnancies.

Neuter your cat before he is 6 months old. In addition to the many other good reasons to have your cat neutered, more than 90% of cats will not start spraying if they are neutered before the behavior begins.

They only have to weigh two pounds and be 6-8 wks of age to be fixed. Mine have always been neutered early. The earlier the better in cats, IMO. :-)

I don't really know. I've been told to get it done anywhere between 4 and 6 months. Mine is getting done next month. He will be exactly 6 months. Myself, I wouldn't let it go any further than that. You'll have to get with your vet for the correct answer.

2 months (6 weeks) is far to young. 6 months is the perfect period of time to wait, if you do it anytime before you risk the chance of the surgery not being successful because their sexual organs are not fully developed and could cause health issues, or lead to part of sexual organs to be left in causing you and your cat discomfort for the rest of your life. And surgery to reverse that mistake will cost around $1,000 for an "exploratory" that is not 100% effective.

With males (I just adopted one and had a LONG chat to the vet who was at the SPCA) - 5 months is the mark, since before that and after 6 months there may still be spraying.
