My nieghbor saved a kitten thats mother was feral, she has taken the kitten to the vet and has had her checked and shots given. The problem is she has severe diarhea and the vet keeps giving her medicine for parasites ( they also gave her antibiotics previously for the same problem) even though they checked for parasites and none were found, this medicine seems to be making her worse, she picked up the kitten and feces just runs out of her....has anyone given Immodiun AD to there kittens and iis it safe. I know my mother would give it to her Yorkies if they are really sick but Im not sure about a kitten.

She has called the vet several times now and they keep charging her more money for medicine that doesnt seem to be working.
The kitten is eating well and drinking and she has tried the rice and hamburger (kitten didnt like the burger) but not the chicken yet so Ill let her know to try that.

If she's been dewormed several times and still has diarrhea, then she may have a different parasite that many dewormers don't kill. She needs to be checked for coccidia and giardia. She could also have a food intolerance or a bacterial infection. More info is needed. No, don't give immodium--you need to find out the cause of the diarrhea before she gets severely dehyrated.

check with your vet... until then keep pumping fluids into it. Kitten Formula and water are the ONLY two that should be given. Use an eye dropper or a small medical syringe (the kind you get from the drug store for kids). Diarrhea causes dehydration which can kill ANYTHING!!

Good luck!

boil rice with more water than needed, and save the water to force feed if necessary to the cat. If the cat will eat the rice too that would be good. I had to use an medicene dropper to force feed my cat.
I also had to give my cat baby food since it wouldn't eat at first. Something like beef, chicken, fish, etc. but after you feed it to them, always watch for the next bowl movement to see if its not making them have more diarreah...
the cats electrides may be out of the norm so pedilite (plain) can be given too.

A few things: 1. Clean around his nose and mouth with wet wipes to make breathing easy. 2. Put him in a cozy space - I know cats enjoy being cuddled up in a cozy space ie. box with blanket around him. 3. Help him relax - gentle strokes and sometimes quiet repetitive sounds such as clock ticking will help them relax

Tell her to call the vet back. They can try a different antibiotic.
