Can loud bass damage ears through Earplugs?

Question

I was at a concert last weekend which was VERY loud, especially the Bass.

I have had tinnitus for a few years, so I wore earplugs very snug.

The highs and mediums were still audible, but not overwhelming, but the Bass was very very loud ( for the lack of a better phrase and sounding like an old person, it shook my bones)

my question is can that bass penetrate the earplugs (and or head) and damage my ears????

it should hopefully not penetrate the ear plugs, thats what they are for, only time will tell, good luck
