https://www.annualcreditreport.com/ is the website that directs you to the free annual report the credit bureaus are required to give. Last time I used it I don't think it needed a credit card. Though they are only required to give you the report, not the FICO score. So you will have to pay extra for that ($8 I think), and then would need a credit card if you do want it.

You are entitled, under law, to one free credit report per year from each of the three major credit reporting bureaus. Bear in mind that this free report ONLY gives you the content of your credit file(s), and will not give you a credit score unless you agree to pay for same.
