Babylon the Great: The world empire of false religion, embracing all religions whose teachings and practices do not conform to the true worship of Jehovah, the only true God. Following the Flood of Noah’s day, false religion had its beginning at Babel (later known as Babylon). (Gen. 10:8-10; 11:4-9) In time, Babylonish religious beliefs and practices spread to many lands. So Babylon the Great became a fitting name for false religion as a whole.
Why can religions that profess to be Christian properly be viewed as a part of Babylon the Great, along with those who know nothing of the God of the Bible?
Jas. 4:4: “Adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God.” (So, though they know what the Bible says about God, they make themselves his enemies if they choose friendship with the world by imitating its ways.)
2 Cor. 4:4; 11:14, 15: “The god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through.” “Satan himself keeps transforming himself into an angel of light. It is therefore nothing great if his ministers also keep transforming themselves into ministers of righteousness. But their end shall be according to their works.” (Thus Jehovah’s chief adversary, Satan the Devil himself, is really being honored by all who do not worship the true God in the manner that He has appointed, even though they may claim to be Christians. See also 1 Corinthians 10:20.)
Matt. 7:21-23: “Not everyone saying to me [Jesus Christ], ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness.”
Why is it urgent to get out of Babylon the Great without delay?
Rev. 18:4: “Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues.”
Rev. 18:21: “A strong angel lifted up a stone like a great millstone and hurled it into the sea, saying: ‘Thus with a swift pitch will Babylon the great city be hurled down, and she will never be found again.’”
Luke 21:36: “Keep awake, then, all the time making supplication that you may succeed in escaping all these things that are destined to occur, and in standing before the Son of man.”
What will happen to people who did not know Bible truth but lived and died in the past as part of Babylon the Great?
Acts 17:30: “God has overlooked the times of such ignorance, yet now he is telling mankind that they should all everywhere repent.”
Acts 24:15: “There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” (As to which ones of “the unrighteous” will be raised, God will decide.)
Job 34:12: “For a fact, God himself does not act wickedly, and the Almighty himself does not pervert judgment.”

I'm surprised you have never had the opportunity to question Jehovah's Witnesses personally, so that you could get a direct answer. Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians in the sense that they believe in Jesus Christ, yet they differ from most mainstream Christian sects in that they deny His divinity. They use the name "Jehovah" precisely because they see God the Father as the center of their beliefs. They witness, not because they have seen Jehovah, but because spreading their message (mostly through house-to-house visit) is essential to their beliefs. The following is from Yahoo: Jehovah's Witnesses ADVERTISEMENT Christian group originating in the United States at the end of the 19th cent., organized by Charles Taze Russell, whose doctrine centers on the Second Coming of Christ. The Witnesses believe that the event has already commenced; they also believe the battle of Armageddon is imminent and that it will be followed by a millennial period when repentant sinners will have a second chance for salvation. The Witnesses base their teaching on the Bible. They have no churches but meet in buildings that are always named Kingdom Hall. There are no official ministers because all Jehovah's Witnesses are considered ministers of the gospel. Their views are circulated in the Watchtower, Awake!, and other publications and by house-to-house canvasing carried on by members. Since their beginning, the Witnesses have been the subject of harassment virtually everywhere that they have been active. Regarding governments as the work of Satan, the Witnesses refuse to bear arms in war or participate in the affairs of government. Their refusal to salute the flag brought about a controversy that resulted in a decision in their favor by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1943. The Witnesses insist upon a rigid moral code and refuse blood transfusions. Before 1931, Jehovah's Witnesses were called Russellites; abroad the movement is usually known as the International Bible Students Association. Active in almost every country in the world, the group has more than 1 million members in the United States.

Christendom is different from Christian in our view as there are a great many religions CLAIMING to be Christian. By there beliefs and practices prove that they are not Christian. There needed to be a name for them so this was it.
We are not part of Judaism as they rejected and killed the Messiah prophesied to arrive as Jesus did.
People wonder how can all these religions be the right one? It is fairly simple actually. They must follow only how the Bible directs one to live or direct. An easy comparison of a religion's beliefs with a Bible concordance or index will give anyone a correct answer.
For instance, many Christendom's religions teach the dead are either in pain or bliss and know what the living are doing. The proper question is, does the Bible agree? Look under "dead" for references. There you will find Eccles. 9:5,10 which says the dead have no knowledge whatever nor can they feel anything. Other references back this up.
So according to the Bible, this belief is false. A religion believing this could not be the true Christian religion.
They also would obey Jesus' orders at Matthew 24:14. Also in Romans 10:13-15 it brings up an interesting point. How can someone call on someone they have not heard of? How can they hear without someone to preach? How can they preach without being sent forth?
Those doing these things the Bible agrees with are true Christians. We believe we qualify. We are recognized as the only ones doing most of these things.

The name Jehovah Witnesses comes from Isaiah 43:10. If you continue to read, it's quite significant.

Hey there!
This question has already been answered! But if you liked what you read, I encourage you to make sure you seek out JWs. We offer FREE home Bible Studies. We love answering questions and helping people learn what the Bible has to say. We love offering hope to people all over the world, including you of the hope soon to come, God's Kingdom, The New World you were reading about. Isn't wonderful? You can go to www.watchtower.org and there is a lot more reading material there if you would like to read some more there. As you can see, you can take YOUR OWN personal copy of the Bible and read the scriptures and see that what we have to say is from the Bible.
Be careful on here with the information you get.The reason is because there are people here who post that used to be Jehovah's Witnesses before that have done some bad things in life or had a bad life and want to take it out on Jehovah God. That is in fact what they are doing because they at one time came to an accurate knowledge of God and decided that they didn't want to live a life according to what he wanted and have turned their back on God. They say horrible things, and most of them are so consumed with hate that they will lie. It is sad that they have turned out this way. (I tell you to be careful, but I am careful also. I am a long standing JW, and everytime I see someone that I think is like this above discribed person I just block them because they never have anything good to say and it helps me to skip over their post easier since I see this red mark by their name) But knowing this I encourage you to go straight to Jehovah's Witness to get your facts before you listen to these people. (again, as I mentioned before, as you can see with YOUR OWN Bible, all of our material is based on Bible principals)
Here is a link that will help you out on our beliefs.

Christendom is the world empire of false religion...we are not part of that.
We feel we have the faith that Jesus promoted in the bible days.
We do not adulterate our faith with politics or paganism.
The Jews called for Jesus death so we have nothing to do with them as God has turned away from them as an organization. Individuals of any nation may come to Jehovah and worship and partake of Jehovahs table.

One of the few cults that sprang up in the first half of the 19th. century that still survive. The mormons, seventh day adventists, are a couple of the same. As were the Shakers.

I'm still trying to figure out why they call themselves "Jehovah Witnesses" when Jesus said in Acts 1:8 "you shall be witnesses to ME in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Why not Jesus Witnesses?
