ok my mom came to the united states illegally like 22 years ago, for that reason we where all born here. My oldest sister turned 21 this year and for that reason my mom is finally turning resident this month. The process took 7 months and she just got a letter from immigration letting her know she is getting her residence this month. She is very happy because she can finally go to mexico and visit her parents without worrying she cant come back.

I forgot to say my mom did not come here as a *******, she came here on an airplane and back in the days immigration did not ask for green cards, because mexicans did not exist in okc yet. ohh and for the people who say she used fake id's im sorry to dissapoint you because she did'nt. I love my mom and admire her for all what she did, because she did it correctly. I also love my father for supporting her and raising us too( he was a resident from way back but did not have citizenship till know, dont know why, lol.

I really Couldn't put it better than "Thomas G."
You should never be labeled as "criminal" for going somewhere to start a new life, and its certainly not her fault that Mexico may not offer what she needs!!
Since when has it become "Illegal" to dream of a better life, and doing anything to reach that dream??
Dont you think it would just be better to except everyone, as they are?
not everyone has the resoucres they need to obtaine an American citizcen ship, wether they diserve it or not! So shouldnt it be our governments goal to work with other countries governments to make it easier, as to not have this whole "ilegal Immegrants". I thought America was the melting pot! I thought America was proud of its heritage, not for just the countries history, but its residents heritage!
acceptance is something everyone can work on, but its not that hard to make the steps.
And if our government doesnt like people coming here, they should help the places people come from to get here, and make them better, shouldnt it be every government, and every person goal be to make the world better, for everyone, and to help, everyone, and especially those who need it the most.
So no, I would never call your mother a criminal, especially when we have a real criminal (who would call your mom criminal, while denying that he is) as President!
Basically, it time for some change!
P.S., tell your mom congratulations, she really deserves it, and more!!!!!!!!!!!
PEACE ON EARTH!

I guess there is something missing in your story...You say that your mom came over here like 22 years ago..and said that it took her 7 months to become a resident this month..What happened to the 21 years and 5 months...???? That is great that she got it..but why didn't she do it 21 years ago? So your mom was a criminal for 21years....

No, I don't see your mother as a criminal and I would never have thought that about her. She has raised you girls, and I'm sure you all are the reason she did what she did. I'm sorry that all these people have had nothing but bad things to say to you, ignorance runs deep around this subject. Congratulations to your mother, and I hope that she doesn't let the remarks of some ruin her perception of the rest of us that are not filled with hate towards immigrants.

Well according to your own comment she did not receive welfare from the American people and did not work, personally if she finally becomes legal I have no problem but living off our system for 22 years was a nice little chunk of change for the taxpayers to doll out for people who do not have the permission of this government to be here in the first place, if your mom did not receive any form of assistance then I praise her for at least not taking advantage of the system. How many others do you think we are footing the bill for?
By the way, congratulations on her late but better than never choice to become nice and legal and I am glad she is getting a job, taxes into the system will help pay some of those who do use assistance.

Not a criminal now and she never was. Just a victim of poor timing and racist views in America. Most of the people here now are descendents of immigrants that got a free pass from day one when they came from wherever. Those same immigrants got here and have been trying to close the door on anybody else that wants the same opportunity. The descendents of those that killed the Mexicans and Native Americans for this land now behave as if they have exclusive rights to it and anyone else trying to enjoy the same life is an invader. We still have plenty of room for excellence no matter what color skin it is packaged in. Welcome and congratulations to you and your family.

Your mom isn't a criminal. She didn't have the luxury of signing her name on a big book like good ole Jerrys ancestors did. His family history must be a little tainted as far as hie TRUE history. She came here for the same reason everyother persons Mom, or Grandfather, or Geat Great Grandfather did? The fact that she didn't use any type of assistance is great. It's shows ignorant people that there are people out there that are more strongwilled than them. Tell you Mom congrats and that there are 5th generation citizens that our proud to have people in our country with stories like this.

I have to agree with Dennis Leary on this, "Somebody who crosses a desert, wades across a dirty river and then crawls through rusty barbed wire to make a better life for their family--that's a REAL American!"
Gratz to your mom for finally making it official. Keep after her to go for citizenship. From your pic and the way you write, I'd say she knows how to raise kids too.

Wouldn't it have just been easier to go to an area within Mexico and get a job? The cost of living there is much lower, but matches the wages of the jobs there. And the unemployment level is only slightly lower than the unemployment level here. Plus, wouldn't it be unfortunate if she was made to pay back all the taxes that she has not paid all these years? That is not meant as a bad remark, but something to think about, as an illegal.
I only would see her as a criminal if she used a fake ID or stole someone else's ID. Plus, if she felt it was the right thing to do for herself, she apparently did not see it as wrong. I don't think there is any use in punishing people for things they did 22 yrs ago.

She doesn't seem to contribute much to society. It's not enough to say she never got welfare, as you say, she also has never had a job. Does she even speak English? I still feel she is a criminal, but does it really matter? She snuck through and is getting her residency.
Something I find interesting is that so many come here for a "better life" and then still wave a Mexican flag, claiming Mexico is the greatest place on Earth, saying "Viva Mexico" etc. If it's so great, why not stay there and try and improve your own country, rather than leech off of another country?
Spazz, does killing one person make you a murderer?

As much as I hate to say this, yes, I do believe that your mom is still a criminal. Face it, she did come here illegally, not legally.
If I as a United States citizen commit a crime now, and manage to not get caught for 22 years, I have still committed a crime. I broke the law, which would make me a criminal. That's just how it is.
We have got to stop looking at the fine lines here, and begin to look at reality.
I'm happy that your mom can go back to visit with her parents.
But being awarded for what.. hiding out all these years.. :( Sorry. I disapprove. Not because I don't have compassion, but because of our laws.. if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. Your mom should not be allowed back, unless someone is now willing to sponsor her, and help her get her citizenship. Please, check into this, just in case she won't be allowed back.
