I am planning on getting my first tattoo in 2 months when i turn 18. i have friends who say not to because it is "changing your body" and all that. But really what is the difference between tattoos and body piercing, they are both body modification. Why do people have such a problem with tattoos and not piercings?!?!?!

well make sure you get something you'll love for the rest of your life, they don't come off & get it above sleeve lines, a lot of jobs won't hire people with visable tats, Sad but true

Because tattoos are permanent and they can do damage to their body. Sure piercings can be permanent but if the people who have piercings dint want them anymore they just don't wear rings in the holes and the close. And some people thing tattoos are obnoxious. And people are sometimes even scared. And tattoos can send the wrong messages. Like it may have people think your mean and tough when your really not!

Cause you can't remove a tattoo. Well ...yes you can but you will be left with an ugly scar the rest of your life. Similar to a 3rd degree burn scar (if not worse). The tattoo will turn green after a few years. The piercing can be removed and usually the hole will heal over time and the scar minimal. That's the difference I have told my kids.

There is a huge difference. You can always remove piercings, they can close up, they can scar, they can get infected. Tattoos on the other hand, are permanent, unless of course you get it removed by a laser. As tattoos get older they can fade & stretch, so be carefully where you get it. True, they are both body mods but tattoos are definitely more permanent than piercings.

My personal experience with peoples problems regarding tattoos versus piercings have been that tattoos are more permanent to your body, requiring extensive treatment to remove, where piercings will usually close up if not in use, therefore not needing any professional work done to remove.

Piercings last as long as you want them to.

Tattoos last forever and can completely change the way society, friends and family view you. I've had a sleeve for about 7 years now, I'm only 23. I recently completely changed careers and having tattoos is a real no-no. For the rest of my life I will have to wear long sleeves...and its 90 degrees out!

I used to only have to remove my piercings with no problem when it came time to work.

Tattoos are a little worse.

because if you don't like your piercing, you can take out the jewelery and let it heal up. I had a nose ring in high school and thank god that wasn't permanent! I just have the tiniest scar that you can't even see unless I point it out. I also have tattoo's that thankfully I don't regret, BUT if I did, its a whole lot harder to reverse, not to mention expensive and painful. (Never tattoo names!) Think long and hard about a tattoo, its pretty much forever.

It's probably because piercings are easier to get rid of than tattoos are. If you want to get rid of the piercing, you just take out the ring and let the hole close up. If you want to get rid of the tattoo, you have to pay to get tattoo removal surgery.

Dearie, the last time I checked, one could remove a piercing and let the skin close over again, as if it never happened.

One does not have this option with tattoos, unless you count laser removal, which entails a lot more work and money.

You would have to ask the people who have problems with either for their specific reasons.

Have a nice day!

I have had tattoos and piercings. I'm now 25 and wanting to settle down ... and so I got rid of my piercings... and you can't really tell that I had any. However... I can't get rid of my tattoo unless I get that laser surgery thing... and I don't want that because then it just looks like a messy scar.
