Animals like everything else were created by God. How and when He did this is up to debate. Some hold to a literal interpretation of the creation account in Genesis (actually there are two accounts: Gen. 1:1 - 2:4a is the first; 2:4b to the end is the other). Others hold to an evolutionary design. This does not necessarily deny the existence or involvement of God. You can find Christians in both camps.

-sighs- first, I recommend you don't listen to those who call you an idiot (or any form of derogatory name, that just shows how immature and out-of-touch with their religion they are...) anywayz, to answer you're question from a scientific standpoint, yes (I'm sure you had your fill of the theocratic answers...) they were created from the same proteins and all the other stuff that came from the primordial soup...so, we fast forward a couple million years to get to the Mesozoic Period (you know, Dinosaurs and stuff...at least I think it's this period...anywayz) and we have big walkin' lizards everywhere, with little rats and rodents, some bird-like lizards...and the like, then BOOM! K-9 event happend (big rock fromthe sky) and then Ice Age, which led to the Age of Birds (not well heard of age of the Earth) then the current age, the Age of Mammals, which evolved all the different animals we're familiar with today...so it went like this, invertebrates (worms what not...) then fish, then bony fish (yum tuna...) then amphibians (frogger) then reptiles (you know how it is...) then birds (since there really is genetic proof that reptiles and birds are related) then mammals, and then chimps, the chimps walked upright, a couple more thousand years of time, then you come up with us...so that's it, we all come from the common cold (in a manner of speaking) hm...circles within circles huh? Oh and for another answer...God said.

Well, it's like what parents do when they get married and go to bed....
On a more serious note, animals evolved from bacteria , but not directly. I don't remember the lineage of the different kingdoms.

God created animals, just as he created the human species that walks on two (actually, we walk on a lot of people now don't we?) Hmmm.

Humans *are* animals.
(We're not vegetables or minerals!)

Its probable that all animal and plant life derived from a common ancestor.
