The dr.'s are saying I might have to take care of him for the rest of his life due to the brain damage from the enchalitis..Does the brain heal itself? What are the best and worst case scenerios? I am completely devistated over this that my son might never be able to comuniate, walk or talk ..anyone have any hope stories?...or even worse case scenerio ones?

brain tissues do not heal, they do not grow back. Once damaged those tissues remain damaged. That's the bad news. The good news is that often un-damaged brain tissues will take over the jobs performed by the former tissues now damaged. So, it isn't possible to predict his level of function as he grows. Worse case, he is a vegetable the rest of his life, requiring ongoing care. Best case, he is rehabilitated and leads a reasonablly normal life, and your son, poor dear, can fall anywhere in that curve.

Oh my god - I'm so so sorry. I can't help you but I just want you to know that I'm thinking of you. That's absolutely devastating and I hope someone on here knows information for you. God bless you.
