God

My children above all things, and not just because I don't believe in the Christian deity. Even if I did, it's my job as a mother to put my children first. They need me.

If they cannot depend on me to put their interests, happiness, and well-being first, who can they depend on? They learn who they are from me; my actions tell them how they are valued as people and whether they can expect love and acceptance in the world. I am their first experience, their primary source of nourishment and security, and the way I value them will color all other experiences in their lives.

I am so responsible for so much that no reasonable deity could possible expect or remotely wish to be more important than me being the best I can and placing primary importance on those who are utterly dependent on me. Any who do, on judgment day, may prepare to get their butts handed to them by the Dragon Nemesis (me, when defending my children. Nothing in all the Hells can be more frightening).

God is the most important to me, I hope that my children grow up to know that God is more important to them than me.

Of course my children are very important to me but, they can't get me into heaven through the back door! I care for them until the day they decide to leave the nest, if they want to leave prematurely that is up to them but if we don't see eye to eye and we begin arguing and always fighting then we must go our separate ways.

My children are supposed to be responsible for themselves when they grow up, indeed some children don't even love their parents, some actually plot to kill them especially when the have property and a few coppers in the bank.

In order to be truthful, God should be #1 in a Christian's life, and then, it naturally follows that you will treat your children with the same love that God has for us. You will spend time with them and be a better parent than if you didn't know the Lord.

Wow! All I can say is that I'm so very glad I never had parents like these people who say God comes before their own children! If there is a God who is truly like the one who told Abraham to sacrifice his own son to "prove" his loyalty, that's not a God that I want to believe in.

All I can say after reading some of these responses and some of the responses on Grim Jack's other question is....

I am so thankful I ended up with the parents I have! What kind of people are putting their children second? What kind of people would rather see a child die than lose faith? Utterly disturbing!

God of course. He is the reason I am alive enjoying my own children and family. For not for him, where or what would I be?

God is my savior, my children are his blessings and I try to thank him everyday for the gifts he has given me.

God will give me eternal life in heaven I believe. My children may give me eternal life in a nursing home.

I think there's a lot of missing the point here. God can look after himself, he'll get along just fine without you.
The same does not apply to your children.
Who needs your protection more than them?

My children. And I cannot imagine that God would want it any other way.
