Jesus Christ rose from the dead.
He totally changed me from the inside out.
I was born again one day just like the Bible says.
I sense the presence of God every day.
I'm not running from reality,
I am running to it.

I believe in God and I can assure you I'm not running from reality. I used to be atheist, and I can tell you, there are plenty of atheists who run from reality. Being secular doesn't make you wise, and your question "You live once, what indicates otherwise?" is patronizing and pedestrian. Do YOU have proof you live once? You are making the SAME ironic contradiction of proving something you don't know. You don't KNOW if there is a God; but people who DO have faith are happy that way and they live their lives in reality. Do you honestly think they care about some ignorant guy's opinion?
You don't get faith from reading the bible; you get it by feeling truly deep down in your SOUL that there is a God, and you must know (him). That's what separates humans from animals; well, excluding atheists ;) No offense...

You really need to define reality. As witnessed by many of the preceding answers, for those with a strong faith, their beliefs and the impact of those beliefs on their lives are very real to them and I don t consider that they are running from anything. I cannot accept religious doctrine about an afterlife and that for me is my reality.

I believe that I live on this planet only once. So either you are only refering to reincarnationists or have some other idea of living more than once. Furthermore what evidence do you have that you only live once? Have you met someone who has come back from the dead to give you this information?

You have apriori assumptions once, you say?
Well, let's see, Jesus came back to life after being dead for 3 days, appeared to over 500 people, and the witness of the Holy Spirit that has testified to Billions since then...
Soli Deo Gloria
And the Atheists like Huxley who say that they "want this life to not have meaning" as it frees them to their erotic and other desires without consequence...
Yes. "Religious" people are running from reality, as we are clearly the only non-neutral group in the debate...

I'm not running from reality. I did a lot of that for years. I've found it now and the running stopped. I am a Christian.

No, I am not running from anything.
FAITH indicates otherwise. Christians believe in God and in Heaven. Jesus's death on the cross and His resurrection indicate otherwise.

Yes, which is why they believe fairy stories about some omnipotent, omnipresent, blah, blah, blah supernatural being who will save them and give them everything they ever wanted for all eternity if they just do what they are told (and hand over some cash).
They cannot cope with the fact that we are all products of natural phenomena, and that when we die we die, like all the animals and plants, and they are willing to cling to anything which offers them hope or salvation, without question.

What indicates "you live once" --??
I don't consider myself "religious" but I believe in reincarnation and that the soul is eternal.
