I would recommend that you contact your local volunteer center. They can provide all sorts of one-time or short-term volunteer activities that match your interest and meet real community needs as well. They can find a project that works best for you.
Check out your local volunteer center through the following links:

Good luck!

I suggest doing volunteer office work if you have limited abilities. Places like United Way, will want people who can do heavy lifting, but sometimes they need people to do office work.
Can you cook? Soup kitchens are always looking for help.
There was a volunteer job here for The Cancer Society, they needed a graphic designer to do posters for them. So the jobs are out there, just pick a charity :)
Can you do anything like knit or crafts? You could try volunteering at a rest home and working with the elderly.
Lots of possibilities, good luck! :)

I suggest contacting your local United Way. They usually have a volunteer clearing house and know of many volunteer opportunities and what may be required of the volunteer. I think they would be more than happy to discuss your particular situation and your interests. Thank you for wanting to make a difference in others' lives!

there are lots of things you can do. you can read to young ones at libraries ,book stores, some local public schools, or to older ones at nursing homes and homes for the developmentaly disabled and veterans hospitals. how about vonunteering to teach literacy to those who never learned? i don't know your exact limitations but some places that house ill or disabled babes look for people to come in and just rock them. check your area. have fun and kudos for volunteering.
