As an atheist, my only concern is that their beliefs are imposed on my life. I don't want to be legally compelled to adhere to their behavioral standards or "divine mandates".

I worked with an Atheist teacher this past school year. Whenever a student mentioned anything that had to do with religion the teacher would say, "All Religion is bull. There is no God just superstitution."
So when we discussed the Pledge of Allegiance, Swearing in in Court, etc. this phrase was constantly repeated.
One of the girls had a cell phone with a picture of an angel, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Jesus on it. The teacher made the comment again.
When a student wore a shirt with a picture of Jesus or Mary on it, the teacher continued to say it over again.
I didn't say anything to the teacher. But the teacher than started showing the video from Monty Pithans "Every Sperm is sacred." There was another one making fun of Christ on the Cross.
The went on for 3/4 of the school year.
Thats why Christians and Atheist have a hard time getting along. Because questions constantly come up and their are two sets of answers that oppose each other. How was the world made? God, or Big Bang without God. etc.
I encounter this problem all the time at a public High school where I work.
Its no wonder the kids are confused. The School doesn't help support what the parents or church teach, the school forces attendance and then degrades the student's beliefs.

I've wondered that myself.
It doesn't really bother me that atheists have chosen not to believe, although it does hurt me to see how the church turns on them.
I can't understand, for the life of me, why any atheist ought to be upset that I have chosen to remain a Christian.
As far as Christians "imposing laws" on anyone, in America, everyone is free to vote. If a law gets passed that you don't like, all I can say is...tuff. There have been many laws passed that, as a Christian, I don't like. You do what you can to make the changes you'd like to see...but there's no point in attacking any particular group.
Bottom line:
We don't all think exactly alike.
You can learn to live with it, or you can make yourself miserable worrying about it.
But you will NEVER change it.
God bless you!!

Because Christians, Catholics, etc. Those religions have been responsible for the decay of our society. More hate, lies, violence, murders so on and so on have been committed in the name of some religion all through time.
Atheists started out just NOT believing and because they did not they were murdered or imprisoned for it. Religion teaches a lot of good things like kindness and loyalty, but it also gets warped and twisted from being about believing in god, to believing every word from the bible (which is a made up text made to keep those in power, in power) which they dont really understand in the first place, and make it some LAW to which everyone has to believe in and obey.
Those interpretations, or should I say MIS interpretations have caused so much violence and hate, it is a complete contradiction to what they are supposed to believe and it is harmful to everyone.

why are others so judgemental of Christians and Atheists. As a Christian I pledge to love everyone, irrespective of belief. To accuse me as an individual (irrespective of my belief) as judgemental is presumptuous and unwise, you don't know me do you. its never good to assume things about people, or have preconceived ideas, it could lead to prejudice...careful. If an atheist chooses one way of life, there's not a thing in a world i can do about it, everyone has a right to choose. It might amaze you to know that I have plenty of Moslem friends whom I love dearly and who feel the same towards me, and i know people who don't care about religion at all. No, i'm not some sort of liberal new age Christian, i'm an educated person who feel that love is at the root of all that's good, and that's how i pledge to live my life.

Because both think that they're right and the other is stupid for not believe the way they do. That's why I'm agnostic, I don't know and will never know truly what's out there. Science has gotten pretty refined, but don't have all the answers. Religion is supposed to be hopeful but is a major cause of pain, strife and war in the world. I say it's better to not know and intelligently and calmly discuss the issues without trying to "convert" another person which causes so much animosity.

Religion is often a centerpiece in life and it's a real powderkeg.
Of course, to Christians, thier religion is 100% right. Everything in the Bible is true, and God is the only way. When they find someone who doesn't believe, they follow through with what they're taught: to reach out to non-believers and show them "the truth".
Most people don't like to have things pushed onto them. As an Athiest, I can say most of us don't like having Bibles shoved down our throats.

Unfortunately, most folks somehow find it threatening when others do not share their personal perspective. They tend to forget that everyone has an individual experience and that no two are exactly the same. Basically, it is just an expresion of personal insecurity. No one really "knows" either way...those who 'push' their personal understanding are seeking an explaination about their existance that is not available. An eyeball cannot see itself, no matter how hard it trys. Blessings...

You are wrong. Most atheists could give a rats *** about the Christianity or the people who believe in any god. It is the Christians that wont let the rest of the world be. Because they believe they are right in their beliefs, they must also push it on those who don't think like they do.

As a christian, I am not going to get upset that someone doesn't believe as I do, but I won't sit in their company either. We don't share the same views, so why make a tense situation worse. I wouldn't torture a vegan, by asking him to dinner with a carnivore. While neither culture should be judged as wrong by myself, neither party should sit in the company of the other. Ducks and fish don't swim together, even though they may share the same pond. AND WHILE THE ATHEISTS ARE SAYING THAT WE PUSH GOD ON THEM, LOOK AT THEIR ANSWERS, FULL OF HATRED.

As a religious non Christian I can understand that the Atheists are trying to avoid having Christian doctrine become the law of the land.
Why Christians care what anyone else believes, I don't know.
